I loathe hip-hop and rap (learn to feckin' sing, guys ) so if Morcheeba is hip-hop then I must unknowingly have had a life-changing conversion so dramatic it would make St Paul on the Road to Damascus look like a passing fancy. This song is smoother than mercury on ice, and that's smooth. 7 from the Nottingham jury.

So, who is the lead Trip Hop band?

I know why I loathe hip hop and rap. The social headspace reminds me of the sub-cultures that supported totalitarian fascism in the early and mid-20th century. That and most of the music sucks.

That is one of the most curious associations (or rationalizations) I have ever read.

On all music guide they break it down pretty well for you here , with a history of the genre, pioneering artists, etc. And at the bottom of the page they list out who they feel are the Top Artists, Top Albums & Top Songs (though some of their choices I would not agree fall into the Trip Hop genre). My recommendations are: Massive Attack, Portishead, Morcheeba and Thievery Corporation. The K & D Sessions (by dj's Kruder & Dorfmeister) is definitely a seminal work not to be missed. Waldeck is a great band/artist that really captures the sound well too.

Intersting concept: this Trip Hop you speak of. I'm not sure

"...smoother than mercury on ice..." — I love that turn of phrase. Just love it. It's a great description of this tune.

Thanks explains a lot of things. Thanks vandal. Now fred and I can relax and go back to our mutually felt and deeply entrenched dislike of hip-hop and rap.

Cheeba? I always thought it was short for weed, err Mary Jane, err marijuana.

check out some of the artists mentioned in that article.

top 40 commercial hip hop sucks worse than top 40 commercial rock.

but that is no reason to throw the baby out.
