Possibly the very worst interpretation of this beautiful song that I have ever had the misfortune of being exposed to.
Dreadful over the top vocals and clumsy guitar.
Amazingly it misses all the wonderful opportunities that make this song great.
Horrible.
Painful.

I won't argue that Janis had a fantastic voice and used it very well on the whole. But for me this vocal performance is just too much indulgence, too much self-absorption, too much of the histrionics.

Just...too much.

Janis Joplin - "Little Girl Blue" Live (1969)

"Janis sings an amazing version of this song, way back in 1969. I put this video up because it's rarely shown elsewhere, it's such a vulnerable performance and unlike anything else she ever recorded. "

Was this recorded before or after Janis' death?

Pretty good Otis Redding clone white blues singer here. Best part, the R. Crumb album cover. Interestingly, the Stones requested he do one for them but he refused, stating he didn't dig their music and thought they were just a bunch of poseurs.

Interestingly, Robert Crumb didn't like Janis Joplin's music either , but he was apparently friends with her, and he did the cover for her after she asked him to, because she "liked comic books".

From Peter Gabriel to Janis, what a fantastic segue!
Nice to hear Janis.

Her best ever cover...just amazing, soulful and so like Janis, good girl skating the edge of a razor.

Huh? Surprised at all the negative comments, I think this is a very soulful rendition of this Gershwin classic. This tune always reminds me of home! (Charleston SC).

Sir Joseph, without negative comments, this would be a very dull comment bore indeed. Keep up the good work. And don't be anti-social. We wouldn't want that now, would we?

Sorry, Sarah Vaughn is my favorite version of this tune (especially the Verve remix ).....

No need to apologize. I love Janis, but she almost sounds like she's swallowed a cat here. :)
