Interesting point of view. And I disagree. To me, this is one of the weaker songs Portishead made. There are many songs of theirs that I like tons better. A real pity is, there's none of the stellar live tracks - they played at their wonderfully taped Roseland Ballroom '97 gig (with live orchestra) - getting played on RP. Back then I watched that concert at a local cinema on a big screen, with a solid soundsystem - It brought (good) tears to my eyes: it is/was so effing awesome. They're totally underrepresented here. |
stalfnzo May 12, 2013 - 09:57 | Back in 1994 I was a DJ at a local public radio station. Big Band music every Saturday morning. One day the guy who played contemporary music on his show called in sick, and I volunteered to cover him. Played this song, and then announced on air that it was by a group called "Porti Shed," like a portable shed. Oops. |

cShaggy Mar 09, 2013 - 02:48 | ..since there should be at least one comment per month extolling the greatness of this song, i hereby submit the March 2013 edition: .."this is the beginning of forever & ever".. |

It's got some wa wa work that is something special Undoubtedly one of the finest live recordings I have. She is scarily good at giving me the worst goosebumps. My missus hates them, though, so it's headphones or the car.... |
BazH Jan 29, 2013 - 07:34 | Night time music, surely not 7.30am. |

You could also do worse than to look into Massive attack's Mezzanine at the same time. Something in my mind always links these bands. Bristol (UK). |

Thanks Bill & Rebecca for making our lives better in a way that really matters! This makes me think of the dozens of ways I've been trying to life my ratings in order to build RP-based playlists. My musical life would definitely be less colorful had I not discovered this site! |
