Back in the early 80's when I was still a kid and heard this song for the first time, I thought it was something like a cover of Michael Jackson's hit 'Billie Jean', which was pretty much everywhere. I am still not sure why but especially this: "Yeah, you go back, Jack, do it again Wheel turnin' round and round You go back, Jack, do it again"

sounded a lot to me like this:
" 'Cause We Danced On The Floor In The Round So Take My Strong Advice, Just Remember To Always Think Twice..."
Of course, I didn't use to pay much attention to the lyrics (clearly) as they are not even close, but the melody sounded very similar to me... I was mind blown by what, I would know later, it was a Steely Dan's song written +10 years earlier...

Curious...rhythm intro had me convinced I was about to hear Jimmy Cliff's 'I Can See Clearly Now' {#Ask}

And today exactely the same happened!
I heard this song live at the Ahoy-stadium in Rotterdam (2001 I think) sung by three ladies: an awsome performance but unfortunately I haven't found that version yet...
Recently I found out that the song I ment was Dirty Work, but nontheless, I don't have the song. Pity!

Fantastic song. Surely a contender for best song ever written about addiction - if that's what it's about ;-)

I was at that show! Great fun.

Steely Dan is a concert not to be missed if you get the chance which surprised me since I always thought of them as studio wizards.

Move over and make room for the Big Boys. Classic. Wish I could rate it a 20. {#Bananapiano}

It's just like buses, you don't see any for ages, and suddenly two turn up on the same day.

Bad example, Holland!

America does not no such a thing as busses. Even the last bum has 3 cars of his own!

And the rest of the world suffers water- and climate problems!

I don't know how much of my rating is because I like the song, and how much of it stems from the very warm memories of my senior year in high school that come flooding back when I hear it.

I suspect the latter weighs more heavily.

The fact that I can still like this song after being absolutely obliterated by clear channel is a testament to the greatness that is the Dan! 7 is as high as I can go with this one though.

I totally understand. I've seen them live, have vinyl, cd's and even their box set. Yet I can give this only an 8.

I rate on how much I enjoy the song, this is my personal rating. I do not enjoy the song as much because of hearing so many times. I cannot believe I have to explain something so basic. If you still enjoy the song that much, good for you. I do not, don't try to tell me how to feel about something. This is my rating, not yours.

Friggin' ratings hijackers.... {#Eek}

How in Allah's name does radio airplay, even constant radio airply, ruin a great song. I just don't flookin' get it. Splain it to me Lucy.

A good song is a frackling good song. If you don't want to hear it - again so soon - turn it bleeding off. WTF

oh — this is a great fucking song.

if you're reaching for the dial, it's already ruined.
