laozilover Oct 21, 2006 - 12:30 | Wikipedia wrote: Styx is an American arena rock band that saw great success in the 1970s and 1980s, penning such hits as "Come Sail Away," "Babe," and "Mr. Roboto." They were the first musical act ever to have four consecutive triple platinum albums.
The group originally formed in the Chicago, Illinois, area in 1961 as "The Tradewinds". This earliest line-up of the group included brothers Chuck and John Panozzo on guitar and drums, respectively; and vocalist, pianist, keyboardist, and accordion player Dennis DeYoung. Changing their name briefly to "TW4", Chuck switched to bass guitar and the band added guitarists/vocalists James "J.Y." Young and John Curulewski. The band members decided to choose a new name when they signed to Wooden Nickel Records; several suggestions were made and, says DeYoung, Styx was chosen because it was "the only one that none of us hated." |
jnhashmi Feb 13, 2004 - 20:37 | I applaud RP for giving Styx a spin. I guess it was played as a "guilty pleasure" but it's a shame because Styx has some incredible music that would be right at home on RP next to the other high quality, thoughtful stuff. "Boat on the River," "Best Thing," or even "Castle Walls" from the same album. More Styx - not just an occasional spin of the songs that have been driven into the ground on the radio over the years - would make RP even more sublime than it already is. |
redeyespy Jul 08, 2003 - 16:49 | To think that I air guitared to this once upon a time |
smellody Jan 24, 2003 - 07:28 | RP, what were you thinking playing Styx?
You might as well throw in REO Speedwagon and Journey so you can have a candy-ass 70's trifecta. |
pbostian Jan 24, 2003 - 05:36 | I love to hear this song.. but not that often do I get to. Brings back some great memories. I really like about 95% of the stuff that is played on RP. If all of you others are like me, you can handle a bad one every now and then. Can't we all just get along? :p :p Edited By pbostian at 5:36 am on 1/24/2003 |
great_one Jan 24, 2003 - 05:32 | Brings back high school memories. Not the best music in the world, but fun to hear now and then. :) |

PeteB Jan 16, 2003 - 11:06 | Funny as the first things I think of when I hear Styx where the South Park references already mentioned and the recent Simpson's "River Styx" gag with homer sailing down a river of fire and skeltons rocking out to "Lady" on of the funniest moments of that season. But then what do I know, I also like Natalie Merchant and Tori Amos :D |

kevinc Mar 12, 2002 - 15:48 | I like the song, but wouldn't want to here it all the time.
But then if you wanted to play some other styx song, I could deal as long as it's not Babe ....or just about any other song post Pieces of Eight. Kevin |
