Just finished this great feature article from the June 2013 UNCUT. The guy was really anti-drugs & cigs, and no alcohol was found in his system after the autopsy. Why anybody would want to swim in the Mississippi in Memphis at all (I grew up a mile from it, and it was "murky" to say the least way up in Minn.), let alone wearing clothes & boots, is beyond me. |

Xeric Mar 02, 2013 - 15:57 | The apparent consensus to the contrary, I think Jeff Buckley is generally just awful. SO overblown, overwrought, over the freakin' top. This song, however, is really beautiful. |
BBoyes Jan 30, 2013 - 08:10 | This is one of my most favorite albums, best listened to all in one go, since parts are a long segue. I was fortunate enough to see him in a small club here in Utah and he signed this disc. It was a fantastic solo show. Amazing guitarist and vocalist. No telling where he might have gone if he was still alive. |
coachc Jan 24, 2013 - 06:57 | I agree that it is not the best version; there are three or four better including Cohen's. But Jeff Buckley live such a tragically short life. Everything he left behind is a gift. Jonno wrote: This is the worst version of this song I know. The John Cale rendition is excellent, "Laughing Len" Cohen's is pretty good too. |
coachc Jan 24, 2013 - 06:48 | Not KD Lang please!!! Her version is so overwrought: My top three versions: John Cale Jeff Buckley Rufus Wainright Bultaco wrote: We seem to be hearing Buckley's version of this song on an almost daily basis. Can we dig a little deeper into the archives, please, and try kd lang's, or Cash's or ANYBODY else's version, pleeeeeeease! |
coachc Jan 24, 2013 - 06:23 | Still like John Cale's version the best though. |

teleskialaska Jan 23, 2013 - 19:31 | There is actually a book about this version of the song, Weid, huh. I copied this link from Amazon: The Holy or the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and the Unlikely Ascent of "Hallelujah" Alan Light (Author) |
anotherdreamer Jan 15, 2013 - 04:04 | I like this song alot, but there are way better versions of it out there. |

MrRedwood Dec 06, 2012 - 14:47 | The Atlantic just covered this song — check out How Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' Became Everybody's 'Hallelujah' . And they mention there's a book on the way out: The Holy or the Broken: Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley, and the Unlikely Ascent of "Hallelujah" . |
MrRedwood Dec 04, 2012 - 21:57 | Sasha2001 wrote: None of these songs have the rating you've given. Where did you get this list - your alimentary canal? Geez, what ever happened to "play nice, kids." This is RP Classics pasted in from the bottom of the Music/Artists page. The note there says " top listener ratings", so the rating is apparently the highest each particular song ever achieved. Next time you decide to be obnoxious, perhaps you could make sure you aren't making a fool of yourself first. |
