I don't know why everyone finds that so surprising. Even I'll admit I'm not brilliant at everything.

Yes, I read a lot and know a lot of words. And I can spell damn near flawlessly.

But they're all words to me, not assemblies of letters. Once I know the word "scrabble", for example, it's one symbol to me - not eight symbols in a set. I don't spell out words as I read them, I just read them.

So if you give me a bunch of letters and ask me to make words out of them, I just sit there staring. Maybe I can come up with "cat" or "is", but that's about all.

Is it possible to change the settings so that the damn clock isn't running?

I'm normally a really good Scrabble player, but when I see time ticking it psyches me out and makes my brain short circuit!
