I recently bought one of these and am very happy with it for streaming-

It's basically a receiver with a dock for i-Things. (and a USB input for memory sticks etc that you may have sound files on) It seems happy enough to play any audio the iPod I'm using sends its way. I use the app TuneIn Radio on the ipod and just set it going. I can control volume and power using the Yamaha remote, but obviously because I am using TuneIn Radio there is a bunch of the iPod control that doesn't work in this particular setup (when I am using ordinary iPod playlists, etc, I can have full control using the Yamaha remote - even if getting FULL control is a bit convoluted, the basics of forward, back, louder, softer, start, stop are really simple). For my money TuneIn Radio does most of what your Grace Digital system does, but uses the ipod's wifi connectivity instead of having its own hardware. The Grace Digital thingy does look like it has a pretty powerful antenna, but if you can receive internet radio on your iPod/iPhone thing in the room you want to use it in, you probably won't need it. (there's a free version of TuneIn Radio you can get from the app store to try it out if you want - see http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/synsion-radio-technologies/id319295335 (this link wants to open up iTunes to show you the developer page)).

I'd be surprised if similar systems to the Yamaha didn't allow you to just play whatever was coming out of the ipod. Try a couple out in a showroom if you can.

Additionally, the Yamaha dock powers the ipod while it is playing (which cables would not) so you can happily leave it connected all night. Personally, I've used connector cables for other setups before (and often just carry some around just so I can play tunes on a friend's stereo) - but docks seem to play a better, and significantly louder, output than the headphone output (even when I use the jack output from a little unpowered freestanding dock). However, cables will let you connect up to just about any system with an 'aux input' selection. If you've got cables you can probably just connect it up to any existing system you've got - but of course it will drain power from your iThing while you do it.
