A lot of the kits provide WAY too much seed in their mixes and the damned things get root-bound, that's usually the trouble we have with them. |

Also warm, and sound absorbing. Still a pain to patch, and hanging pictures takes a bit of extra care. |

We have real lathe & plaster, vintage 1927. It's extremely solid, but can be a pita to work with. Also, the paint in this house is so thick now I think it's probably structural. |

Mine doesn't have the holes that the pictures I googled do. There are a couple of spots with them, mostly around outlets, but in general this stuff is solid. Makes me wonder how the plaster is sticking to it...

Not curved, just a tall box with windows and skylights etc. and a few odd intersections. Nothing really extraordinary except that that bank of windows next to that large expanse of wall made it easy to see every ripple, all the way from ground level to the top.

Why no 4x8? Too small/too many joints?
I'm wondering this myself. Isn't that the 'standard' size? At work we bring in some 12 foot sheets I think to make it go faster and have fewer seems, but I don't think that makes sense in a house.

The generals—or, for that matter, the project managers—on many of the things we work on are some of the most amazingly sharp, organized, responsible and generally brilliant folks you'd ever hope to meet. None of the trades are, in themselves, rocked surgery or brain science. (Including, for the record, cabinet making.) But orchestrating a whole house? Particularly a larger/higher-end house? Yeah, that's pretty close. . . . |

If they were, they probably used "Upson" Board. A big no no. I've repaired homes when they tried to use that stuff.
They developed a special bendable 1/4" rock, starting in this area, specifically for round walls. It's expensive and you have to double layer it. Back in the day, around here anyway, hangers were adept at soaking up to 5/8" x 12' with water gingerly, while bending it over 50 gallon drums. Then letting it dry to shape.
This area was on the "cutting edge" of custom home building for years.
