Influenced? I barely survived Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.....

It just hurts even more to lose him now when he is needed most.

Indeed, I am. Gotta crawl into bed momentarily.

There's no particular reason, it's more like all the reasons. I'm tired, but I'll try to tell you why without sounding like a wackjob (even if I am one.) ;) *deleted because I'm picking apart my own words as I read them. gotta sleeeeeep.*

I dunno, honestly. I'm naturally skeptical about most things. This one bothers me. Scares me even. Perhaps I just need to sleep.

He was absolutely one of a kind.

G'night, my favorite Canadian.

why wasn't his wife home, btw?

Had anybody read these later works? "Hey Rube: Blood Sport, the Bush Doctrine, and The Downward Spiral of Dumbness" has the sound of a potential disaster of a book, with moments of greatness.

I'm surprised, too. And not yet convinced that it was a suicide.

Goodbye Hunter

Pint-taste bitter the Vat 69 wrests a tear
from eyes grown dry with hopes of victory.
The heroes of my youth are fallen and I cannot
find the sacrificial move to save the day.

I am weary of surviving. The insignificance
of my passions mocks me in the shaving mirror.

The bats have won.

Hunter didn't think highly of the music business:
The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Too soon gone. :(

ASPEN, Colo. - Hunter S. Thompson, the acerbic counterculture writer who popularized a new form of journalism in books like "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," fatally shot himself Sunday night at his Aspen-area home, his son said. He was 67.

"Hunter prized his privacy and we ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well as that of his family," Juan Thompson said in a statement released to the Aspen Daily News.

Pitkin County Sheriff Bob Braudis, a personal friend of Thompson, confirmed the death to the News. Sheriff's officials did not return calls to The Associated Press late Sunday.
