Stop that right now.   You are and have been doing things right and it's mind blowing to me how many I've seen that don't.   Although we were all looking at it temporary we had to have my mom in a nursing home between her heart attack and the final trip to the ICU and I felt awful about it too.   It probably gave her an extra month or so  though which she really needed to say goodbye to everyone she had to.  Her funeral was SRO.  When I was growing up it seemed like she knew everyone in the whole damn town.  We couldn't get away with nothing in public.  I know what you mean about birthdays though.   Sunday is just one of about a half dozen It Sucks To Be An Orphan Days as far as I'm concerned.

I got a call 47 minutes before my 50th informing me that my Mom was"unresponding".After 8 years of horrible declining dementia, she succumbed to lung cancer.Sometimes I think in her final moments she was aware of it(subconsciously, since her mind was gone) and was trying to hang on for me.

Sometimes that makes me happy, but mostly now birthdays make me cry like a little girl.

I took care of her all through that, but was selfishly relieved when the Oncologist told me she had 6 months and needed hospice care that required care beyond my abilities.

I hate myself.
