MsJudi wrote:What happens when you try to feed him real food, does he flip out? For my dad, every week, it's, "Bring me a 6-pack of beer or two, will ya?" I patiently tell him no, I won't do that. "Why not??" I remind him that he's diabetic and that drinking that much beer could put him into a coma. He denies ever having drunk that much in his life at one time (a lie), and then goes on and on about how he was never much of a drinker, just likes a beer now and then (another lie), and promises that if I bring him a couple of 6-packs (or a case), he won't drink it all at once, he'll only have one now and then (biggest lie of all). What I don't tell him is that him + 2 six-packs (or more) of beer + Alzheimer's= disaster. Imagine, a drunk, disorderly, and dementia-riddled man wandering the halls. Ain't gonna happen.
He's a bit peeved that I make him eat real food, but it's why he's still alive IMO.He definitely earned his diabetes through his awful dietary habits. Thank God he hasn't had a drink in probably 10 years. That would be the tipping point for me.I can barely lift him when he's sober.
