I haven't seen the X-rays but they said it was right above the ankle.I'm waiting to hear from the orthopedic surgeon on the plan going forward.I think the problem with surgery would be that the lower leg has circulation problems and is swollen to more than twice the size of his other one.If he doesn't get surgery the recovery time will be much longer and he'll atrophy.

Gene-I just had his calcium level checked,it was fine-he's a cheese eating machine plus he has a quart of milk with Nestle's Quik for breakfast a couple times a week.

LOL

Better throw in a container of yogurt too.
Well I hope things go better for you and dad.They'll have to get or wait for the swelling down first. Try and get some rest before the second shoe drops.  No pun intended.

You may wish to ask about this for Pops ... Thank you Tesla ...

 Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy

No meds involved.

The wife had this prescribed as part of her healing process for her back fusion.  Its been a total success.  Especially beneficial for the elderly and those who bones just naturally do not heal.  Plenty of cases where breaks unhealed after one year have been successfully stimulated to grow back properly.

We have met other people who have used these types of devices.  One lady has one for her foot.

This is the outfit that makes the wife's unit.

Orthofix.com     Her's is the spinal-stim.  Medicare paid for 80% or so for it.

My heart goes out to you and dad. {#Hug}

Ok a fracture is better that a break most of the time and should heal faster than a full break. He's probably got a soft cast on his leg then.

One suggestion. Can you get dad to take calcium pills? That will help in strengthening the bones if it doesn't interfere with his meds.

I went thru that when mom split her femur into her knee on her good leg when she was 86. It took almost 6 months in the rehab facility cause she's got a 12" plate and 12 screws in her leg.
