Taking a break from insomnia and poking around spring training stories.Last night when I got no sleep I thought it was due to a lot of online reading on grief and depression, followed by a couple poor media choices,Breaking Bad and the addictingly cotton candy Sookie Stackhouse paperback collection. Then I couldn't sleep again tonight.Probably not a good time to focus on death before bed.

 So no Arod articles tonight.

Dressing oneself with a dislocated shoulder and a sprained knee sucks.

But hey,I guess I won't have to suffer cleaning Pops while in a wheelchair.

OK-That was probably wrong.

But if you can't laugh....

If I get this painted in here and the sitting room, I'm selling this house before I have to do this all again. The upside to all this cleaning is that maybe I've inhaled enough bleach and vinegar to massacre my sinuses once and for all and they'll stop bugging me.

Once again, I have bitten off far more than I can chew on a Sunday afternoon. Looks like someone else will be making supper tonight. I'd better go put on some loud music to get this done. I guess these are all the things I get to do when I don't have to find tennis balls under the couch or let the dog in and out all day long.

It may be time for a new dog...

Yes I tried that with an exterior faucet. All that happened was the water froze on the ground and up the wall until it reached the faucet and then iced over the faucet until it stopped. Had a very nice 4 foot tall ice waterfall to look at. But the faucet didn't break. There are no inside shutoffs for the 2 exterior faucets.

It never gets this cold here so the houses were not built taking subzero temps into consideration. Not even single digit. Usually its at least 20F at night here. We've broken records almost every night the last few nights. For instance last night the record was 20 from '62 and it was about 10. Tomorrow nights record is 17 and its supposed to be as much as 7F MINUS. So the records are not being broke by just 1 degree but being totally wiped out.

Sucks about the crawl space.  The front of my house is like that because, when they added the back on, they just collapsed the wall into the crawl space rather than keeping it open. I'll assume that there are no termites until I put a foot through the floor because the inspector couldn't get a look.

My house was built in 1890 and they built the house literally on the ground. The dirt is just inches under the floorboards and they dug out furrows for the floor joists, They dug trenches for the original plumbing which was all LEAD incoming and cast iron out. The lead pipes are still all there but not hooked up of course. No way to remove them. All the old radiator heat pipes are still there even thought the radiators no longer exist. At some point they tore out the center hallway floor and ran "new" copper lines and ductwork for the furnace replacing the radiators. Likely done in the 60's. When I redid the house I used PEX everywhere above floor level and in the few places it could be reached under floor. When I bought the house it had been vacant many years so all the pipes in the walls, upper floors etc were all busted from repeated freezing. Amazingly the underfloor pipes were usable. But if an underfloor pipe breaks the floor needs to be cut up or taken up over the leak. 2 weeks ago a friend of mine and I cut a 14" X24" hole in the floor to access some ductwork that wasn't working. What a mess and the ductwork is still bad as its strapped to all the floor joists and no way to pull it out to work on it. I thought it had come apart but it turns out it was all full of debris plugging it up. And its totally sealed so its been like that since they put it in and its never worked. They likely slid it under a section of floor and it acted like a giant dust pan and scooped up all the crap on the ground under there. Vacuumed out as much as could be reached with 2 shop vac extensions. But still to much blocking it to get heat through it. What fun.
