So I'm not willing to take the next step to say we need the train wreck to keep the site interesting.
Instead, the smell from the pile seems to annoy all the other folks to the point where many people recently have posted about how they shouldn't be in the political forums.
What does that say about the folks that keep slogging it out posting their "facts" and "news"?

My previous comment to which you responded was meant only to note that people are drawn to train wrecks . In context here, I would say that this holds true when there is a train wreck in one of the political threads. Actually, it is true when one occurs anywhere on the forum — and they do occur outside of the political threads. The great majority of discussions in the political threads are not train wrecks . Regular participants find them to be worthwhile and many do their best to self-police those threads. The train wrecks overshadow all those good and worthwhile discussions and, as I said, posters who never engage otherwise in the discussions seem drawn to the train wrecks.

Read some of the comments in the journal  by Winter(third from the top). Several regular participants in those threads explain why they find the discussions here to be valuable.

it is near impossible to dispel the perceptions that all the discussions in the political threads are wastes of time and contribute nothing  but bad vibes.  I have tried to explain the other side, as have others, but what I say seems to fall upon deaf ears. It really is about respect for the viewpoints of others.

i see you joined the forum on July 18 of this year. Are your insights from these 2 weeks since you joined?

You're not kidding.

There's a great old book by Ira Levin called "This Perfect Day," where the protagonist escapes a strict utopian society by escaping to an island, where there are other "malcontents" like him. But after being there a while, he realizes that the utopia intentionally created that place, to offload the hooligans.

That's how I see the RP political boards: the place to identify the angry folks, unwilling to budge in their opinion, but willing to force their "thoughts" on you unrelentingly hoping that you - not they - will see things differently. Do they even enjoy the music on RP? It's hard to tell. They've just found a place to post their latest news articles that prove their perspective. Over and over and over and over.

Now if there could only be a firewall.{#Taped-shut}

Yeah, but it was ok for you to try and bring up the Koch Brothers the other day to start some sh*t.  It was your 17th post upon arrival.  The Koch Bros is a guaranteed button pusher just about anywhere you go on the innertubes.

Then there was your 7th post.  So you live in a glass house.  Don't be complaining about the things others do here that you do here as well.  It would seem that you are ok with politics if it suits your own tastes.

Not calling you out  or trying to start anything with you.  The more the merrier.

Just sayin ...

 The obvious solution is just don't click on them.  Most of the offending threads have titles that should let you know what you're in for.  I will confess to lurking in most of them.  I like watching a good train wreck as much as the next fellow, I just don't want to be the one prying up the tracks.

After a totally futile search to get tires locally for my car yesterday I'm going to try again to find some affordable tires for it online and get them ordered if I can scare up enough money.

Going to my orthopedist today to get the results of my hip MRI. Hopefully, I will finally know what's been causing my chronic pain for the past few years. And hopefully, it can be resolved without surgery.
