Somebody was sending me some files to print and I don't know why she thinks she needs to design anything because she's just an overcaffeinated nitwit, but they were the wrong size etc etc so I said "I can make this work but it would be easier if you did *this* and *this* " to which she replied Oh great, is there anything else? So I gave her a brutally exhaustive list, including "Don't use papyrus."
She followed everything to the letter* but ohmygod I almost wrote back and said Jesus Christ go back to Papyrus. She really did go from bad to excruciating.
*still looked like shit. Technically it was more gooder (printable) but this is why "how-to" books spend so much time on really basic shit: You can't just say what the current problem is, you have to explain every problem that undermines the current problem because fixing only the current problem can reveal a whole new layer of more basic stuff. Papyrus, in this case, is a font with a tiny x-height. Swapping it out with another font without changing the type size causes all sorts of problems... the type won't fit. So if you think you want 12 point type for your text, well Papyrus is too small and Bodoni Poster Italic is well shit lady can't you see it doesn't fit? What is wrong with you?
