The last Silverlight update caused it not to work with Chrome anymore but it still worked fine with Safari on my Hackintosh. The latest beta of Chrome fixed the Silverlight problem however.

IMHO cable could be a lot more competitive if they'd sell individual channels. THE reason we no longer have cable - or DirecTV - is because we have to pay for so much that we never watch.

I always wanted that, too, but actual good channels (are there any anymore?) are subsidized by the proliferation of junk. Exactly the same way the postage on your letter to the governor is subsidized by all the junk mail you get. Bottom line is cable would, on average, cost the same* for fewer channels.

It's going to reach an equilibrium at some point, where a subscription to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, one or two sports packages equals the cost of a cable subscription. Beyond that, people will just pay for cable... (well somewhere in there, maybe not "equal"). Any of those services needs to have exclusive content in order to not be made redundant, and exclusive content costs money. I doubt that Amazon will stop its streaming services, even if it's a big money-loser over the coming decade. But Netflix is a one-trick pony, so they need to be the one people start with and keep forever.

The proposed increase will (for now) only affect customers who will have signed up after June 30 by having their fee be $1 or $2 more ($10 monthly, instead of $8).  It seems like Netflix is trying to foment a "membership drive", similar to what Amazon attempted a couple of months ago by bringing up the possibility of Prime prices increasing.

Sticking with netflix here as prime is a bit irrelevant as so much amazon stuff has free postage for us and with small distances time isn't a major issue.

recommending The Bridge which is a Scandi tv crime drama series on Netflix.  http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1733785/reviews?ref_=m_tt_urv#showAll

We have Prime and Netflix for the time being but yeah, need to drop one. It's awfully nice to have the shipping, tho, so hey, Netflix, it's been good.

Survey says they'll lose a lot of customers with a big price increase.... hmmmm.

We got Amazon Prime and dropped Netflix. Prime costs $79 per year and gets you free shipping on Amazon orders. Since we do a lot of business with Amazon - easily $79 worth of shipping - it seems a good choice so far.

'House Of Cards' Announces Season 2 Return Date

All 13 episodes of "House of Cards" Season 2 will be available on Feb. 14, 2014 for Netflix members to stream instantly. Netflix also released a statement about the upcoming season:

In the second season, Francis (Spacey) and Claire (Wright) Underwood continue their ruthless rise to power as threats mount on all fronts. Zoe Barnes (Kate Mara, “American Horror Story”), an up-and-coming reporter and Francis’s former paramour, is inching closer to the truth about his crimes. President Walker’s (Michel Gill, “The Good Wife”) billionaire confidante Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney, “Southland”) demands that Francis reciprocate political favors or face retribution. And Claire must confront the increasing glare of the spotlight as it eats away at her and Francis’s once private existence. The Underwood’s must overcome these dangers — past and present — to avoid losing everything, regardless of collateral damage they leave in their wake.
