Just listened to O's speech in front of the U.N., a tribute to Chris Stevens, a recommitment to Israel, an ass kicking to Iran, support for the people who want freedom around the world and for free speech.

Had a woman who worked in the banking/credit card industry in the late 80's said oh HELL yea they discriminate against women in banking and finance. She advised me to go with the traditional boy and girl spelling of my name on all financial transactions to keep it ambiguous. Great Advice, followed it ever since.

I like to see the advancement of women in the workplace, as long as the woman is equally qualified. I have seen many many workplace changes in my years. It was either (both?) Ginsburg or O'Connor who graduated from law school and had to work as a secretary.

In a post modern world this wouldn't matter, but now it does.

As of last month, 30% of all federal judges are women, a great improvement over the previous admins. Obama has been working hard to provide some equalization in the courts.

The percentage of women in Congress is way low. Women currently in office, as well as a historical summary of women of color in Congress and a list of percentages of women in the U.S. Congress from 1917 to the present.

Wouldn't it be nice if we never had to think about this again? Maybe we will even have a woman prez in 2016.

If women are underrepresented in a field (such as the judiciary) where they obviously have no biological disadvantage in job performance (like they would in the field of sperm donation), then it's likely that they have been unfairly discriminated against on the basis of their gender.  I think a president working to remove barriers to qualified applicants, including women and minorities, is a laudable achievement.  If such efforts result in a greater number of qualified women being appointed to judgeships, then he or she deserves praise.

I wouldn't want a president to nominate just any woman to the judiciary, otherwise someone unsuitable

might get nominated.
