I started these early - March or April and they were growing great guns.  The damaged stems I pulled out looked bruised and were turning brown and stuff.  I think some kind of insect damage.  I haven't dumped it out yet to see if there are any potatoes in the bottom.

I had bought new potatoes and purple potatoes over a month ago and should have had them planted back then, but haven't had the drive to do anything this year. All I have growing is rhubarb and weeds this year.

They like cool weather and can even tolerate some borderline frosty temps. See this article. Summer in Texas might not work.

I will ask my wife when I get home, she is the potato expert. We have 2 big plots of regular and sweet potatoes going gangbuster!
