The bad news? We have neglected our infrastructure for so long, events like this are going to happen more frequently. Unlike natural disasters, whose causes are myriad and complex, these disasters are uniquely man-made and preventable.

Three people taken to hospital. Here's hoping for a quick and complete recovery for them.

Reading about the earthquake north of RP.  Hope all is well

USGS has it as a Magnitude 5.7, 8:47PM 05/23/13 PDT north of Paradise, near Lake Alamanor.

Several aftershocks as well.  Stay safe!

Oh, my. I was thinking flooding might have been the culprit, but that just looks like simple structural failure. It's an old bridge, not really up to interstate standards. Regular inspections (?) should have prevented that.

Called son, but they turn off the phone after they put the kids to bed. I'm pretty sure they're OK, because they would have been on the island tonight.

That's on #1 Son's route from the Anacortes ferry to Seattle or Portland. There are a couple of alternate crossings, but they're both two lane and involve local city streets. I-5 traffic will probably clog both of them.

I hope there weren't any cars involved, but that's too much to hope for.  Prayers for those who might have been crossing.
