The bad news? We have neglected our infrastructure for so long, events like this are going to happen more frequently. Unlike natural disasters, whose causes are myriad and complex, these disasters are uniquely man-made and preventable.

Oh, my. I was thinking flooding might have been the culprit, but that just looks like simple structural failure. It's an old bridge, not really up to interstate standards. Regular inspections (?) should have prevented that.

Called son, but they turn off the phone after they put the kids to bed. I'm pretty sure they're OK, because they would have been on the island tonight.
