My little town is having it's annual self celebration, kind of a drunk-a-thon in the park with crappy bands. As a result of the hoards of revelers, the songbirds are looking for a place to hang.I've got cardinals, doves, swarms of nuthatches,at least 2 redbellies, blue jays, the usual bunch of sparrows and grackles and Smaug the Squirrel came down out of the trees with a soaking wet tail and came up to the window to glare her way into some food, the freeloader.I gave up the leftover brown rice, but I'm keeping the pizza.

Other than being dirty it looks good for a 27 year old board.

My partner suggested that maybe I should have it, which sounded pretty cool for a moment, but then what would I do with it? I wouldn't mind sailing it once just because, but I don't have any place to put it after that. Maybe I could start a museum.

Well I'm a little late on the today part (it was last Sunday)...

Last Thursday, my wife said "Let's go someplace this weekend."  I said "Road trip!"
So we went north for about 4.5 hours to the "big, hip, hop, happening town of Bishop, California.
For no particular reason than to just get out of town for a couple of days.
Driving home we stopped for a late lunch break at place I've always wanted to stop at, but never had the time... Fossil Falls.
This is a very volcanic area with this cool cinder cone just off Hwy. 395 (one of my favorite roads).

The "Falls" were actually falls years ago when the Owens River roared through there. Since Los Angeles
bought all the water rights up way back,
and took all the water away, the river no longer runs through it.
But the impressive lava flow is still there.

Here's a part of the aqueduct called "The Alabama Gate". This whole system was built in 1908-1913.
It was an impressive engineering marvel designed by William Mulholland. And it started a "Water War" that still goes on.

Ooh, those are good-lookin' dogs.

There is a lot of question whether they are domestic dogs that have gone feral or wild canines that can be semi-domesticated.  They seem to have arrived on the continent quite a bit after humans first showed up.

The owners say they are not like domestic dogs. They also claim that a healthy population will out-compete feral dogs and actually do less livestock damage. But legally they are treated the same as feral dogs and are shot and poisoned to protect sheep. Rather contentious in the high country where the landowners expect the government to control the dogs on public land.
