Wow! Less than 12 hours after the shots I am 80% cured already. Its now back to about where it was when I discovered I was getting sick back on Saturday. Amazing what can happen when they finally give you the correct Drugs. I haven't even started the pills yet as I am supposed to take the first one at bedtime, then 3 a day until gone (or my kidneys shutdown and I go to the ET like last time I was on an antivirus)

It was even more scary living it. I was really wondering what the heck was going that the "Strep" not only wasn't responding to meds but I was getting worse by the day. I am a little pissed they let it go so long before changing tact because they treated me for Shingles about a year ago/ Had it on my chest that time. I didn't think it would have nee Shingles either because I didn't know it could also manifest itself that way.

Yes it is. I was just able to eat 1/2 a can of chicken poodle soup without choking on it like I would have this morning. Yesterday I couldn't even get 2 ounces of chicken broth down. I also had to big glasses of water. That alone has me feeling better.

Just got back and set a new record for getting through there the fastest. I asked if it could be Stevens Johnson Syndrome as was suggested and they didn't think so. But they took blood to test for it and gave me a Cortisone shot just in case as that is the main treatment for it. They think what I have is not Strep at all and this time it checked negative like the first time at the Drs Office. They think its Shingles especially as I've had it before. And yes Shingles can manifest itself as a ear/throat problem. Shingles is a virus so the Amoxicillin would have had no effect on it. So I got some IV Prednizone and they called something else in to my Pharmacy for later today. The main problem is that when I had shingles last year it turned out I was allergic to every antivirual steroid that they tried me on. So hopefully this new one won't be a problem. I was so dehydrated they had a hard time getting blood and pee from me as I haven't been able to ear or drink much.

Wow, Glad they finally got something right....Sorry it had to get so serious.

Prednisone is a wonder drug, especially IV.  Glad that you can still handle it.  Even if you feel lot's better tomorrow, easy does it.  And get some Gatorade to help with the rehydration when you go get your scripts later today.

And be very careful with your eyes.  If shingles gets to them, its dreadful.

What a mess. Did they do a culture for strep before? How often does that come false positive, I wonder... Anyway, sounds like they have a bead on it.

Yes, twice. The first time it was negative and the very next day they did it again and said I had Strep. But not sure if the 2nd one was pos or neg. They just said I had strep and that may have just been their guess.
They said my scalp was hurting because there was a Shingles rash there. I never knew until today that it can also come as a ear/throat problem. They also want me to get a CT of my throat later especially if it doesn't get better this time. That would be to rule out cancer from acid reflux.
