Judith Ann Helfrich Hassed was born Oct. 25, 1930, the youngest of four.  My dad was the eldest.

She was a very stubborn, self sufficient, grouchy woman, but she loved those she loved with a fierceness that I have not seen very often.  I was one of the ones she loved.
Even though we had not really been in touch or seen each other much before she moved up to Colorado, there was a "thing" between us.  An unspoken "thing."

My heart hurts a little, but I am glad she is no longer in pain, and no longer blind.

I hope her brothers greeted her on the other side.  And her husband.  And her parents.  And all of her beloved horses and dogs.

Good journey, Auntie J.  I love you.

1984. That's me at 16 in the left hand corner. That's my brudder with the glasses. Those are his friends all around us. We'd just seen CSN at The Pier in NYC. They boys then walked through a car wash and we went to the Ear Inn. Apparently the drinking age was still 18 in NYC then.

Happy (what would have been your) 94th Birthday, Mom! I got a Master Naturalist certification in your honor! Love and miss you every day.

(edit) And how cool to discover that today is also Neil Young's birthday! Mom would have liked that, being the music lover she was.
