Folk musician Doc Watson dies in NC hospital at 89

Sitting here listening to an interview Doc did with Bob Edwards in 2004. Ver interesting.

I first saw Doc Watson and his son Merle in 1970 at the Ohio University student union basement bar. I was amazed. Over the years I saw him several more times and just as amazing as the first time.

Bet Doc and Merle are wowing them wherever they are. RIP.

He had a combination of talent, work ethic, humility, and an open heart that's pretty rare in his field. I had the privilege to hear him live, and he was both a superhumanly gifted performer and a generous one, willing to let everyone playing with him shine.

We've lost a great musician and a great heart.

One of my best friends had Doc at his venue every year and they became friends. He had been in poor health for some time now and at least he finally gets to rest in that Great Banjo in the sky. RIP Doc. {#Meditate}

I had heard he was pretty sick, complications from surgery last week, so it wasn't much of a surprise, but still. KUT played four or five Doc songs in a row: what a talent, what a range.
