1996 Atlanta, home of major sponsor Coca Cola: Coke produced a special Olympic version of its product in a bottle with a red disc on it to distinguish it from the standard version, They ordered 100,000 cardboard cartons in which to package the 2.4 million bottles. There was supposed to be a statement, "Red Disc Version," on each carton, but the box designer apparently couldn't. decide whether disc should be spelled with a "c" or a "k," (both are acceptable, but "disc" is usually preferred) so he spelled it with both . . . and omitted the "s." The error wasn't discovered until after the Olympic Cokes had been delivered to Olympic Village. All 2.4 million bottles had to be recalled and repackaged.

Tiny typo proves embarrassing for Coca-Cola

A typographical error has resulted in an offensive word being printed in tiny type on the side of 2 million Coca-Cola Classic 12-packs distributed throughout metro Atlanta.
After being alerted to the error by a consumer, the Atlanta-based soft drink giant and its local bottler are in the process of placing a small sticker correcting the error on 12-packs remaining in warehouses. Coca-Cola spokesman Rob Baskin said the boxes with the faulty spelling should be sold by the end of the week, and the correct word has begun appearing on shelves.
"We've done everything we can as quickly as possible," said Baskin. "We regret that anybody was offended by it. We were offended by it."

Normally, the small type under the copyright information states the "red disk icon and contour bottle are trademarks of the Coca-Cola Co." In the faulty packaging, the "s" in the word "disk" has been replaced with a "c."

The packaging, which plugs Coca-Cola's Red Hot Olympic Summer promotion, has been on store shelves in the metro area for three weeks. Coca-Cola discovered the problem last week and began correcting the error. Coca-Cola has received six calls on its toll-free consumer hotline about the error. "Everybody recognizes that it was an innocent mistake," said Baskin, who wouldn't say how the error occurred. "It's obviously a misprint."

Ah, well, I'm only just half way through the opening ceremony, having seen the closing ceremony already.

My boy and I saw the torch come through our town. What appalled me was not just the horrid cheap and frantic commercialism of the sponsor's vehicles, but also the sharp-elbowed desperation of what I thouht were respectable people to get to the front of the crowd. Charlie and I barely saw a thing.

I'm not a believer in karma, but it was amusing (OK, wildly wonderful) that back at work, towards the end of the lunch service, a family asked if we could seat 10. As it happened, we could, and it turned out that they were celebrating one of the family carrying the torch, a lad who couldn't play soccer any more so became a referee for his local youth league, and yes, he'd be pleased to let Charlie hold his torch.

The sharp elbowed wankers and the horrid commercialism worried me about the Olympics, but the sheer niceness of people won me over - my boy has a memory to treasure, I had my faith in people restored, and who the hell remembers who sponsored the Olympics anyway?

Even if you don't enjoy athletics then at least the notion that the Daily Hate has to celebrate the success of Mo Farah is an enormous step forward?

Oh don't get me wrong, the games were a great success. I always said i wanted the athletes to succeed, no matter where they were from. My view, as a paid up grumpy bastard, is that the games caught the popular imagination, and by popular I mean everyone including the Daily Mail.

Even if you don't enjoy athletics then at least the notion that the Daily Hate has to celebrate the success of Mo Farah is an enormous step forward?

I did like the occasional theme of Classic Album Art. I'm not sure how many there were but the Pet Shop Boys made me laugh, knowing no one would get it. Then the Lennon that Alexandra pointed out last night, the Pink Floyd... what else did I miss?

I thought the Annie Lennox bit was doing this album cover but now that I look at it I don't know wtf is going on but it looks like she's riding some bagpipes or something.

This as in the link i provided. I think he gets it absolutely spot on. I'm in the UK and everyone i've spoken to thought the closing ceremony was an absolute joke! Same old same old, let's drag out Brian May for ANOTHER awful guitar solo, let's show some John lennon singing Imagine, let's not show ANY of the multiculturalism that is London, possibly the most diverse city in the world when it comes to music.
