i don't think it has sparked up (we see a few cases because of travel to higher risk areas)

what seems to be on the radar lately is chikungunya virus/fever

spread the same way but usually not fatal

So, I stripped off all of the bedding, and washed it, and all of the throw blankets, in HOT water with vinegar and essential oils, and dried on HIGH.

I made a spray with eucalyptus, cedarwood, and lavender essential oils, sprayed the mattress and box spring.   Then soaked the rugs and throw pillows, which we then vacuumed really thoroughly with my Kirby.

Next up, the pillows will go into the dryer on high as well.  (ran out of energy to do that yesterday, too)

Swept the house completely, scrubbed the floors, and sprayed that mixture all along the baseboards where ever I could reach.

Sprayed the cat tree until damp with the oils.

That should do it for a good while. Until spring, anyway.  Also?  The Roost smelled really nice for a while yesterday, until I started cooking. Then it just smelled like a restaurant.

If you feel like braving the Wal-Marks on a weekend before Christmas—that is where I got mine. RAID even sent me a free coupon since their first product (a bomb) didn't completely work. They recommended targeting the hatchlings.

Also, a 2-pack of Advantage II will keep them from staying on your cats and having your cats get tapeworms from eating them when they groom.

It was a long, painful process for me this past summer—-I hope it's not for you. Because you have ENOUGH to deal with right now.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and spray a bit in the canister of your vacuum, too (my friend actually keeps a flea collar in hers) to kill the ones you vacuum—they may not die, and then you'll redistribute them with the vacuum.

That was what the vet office said, we need to kill the eggs and that should do it for a while....We just treated them with the stuff from the vet, so they're dying off of the cats.  It's the house we have to deal with now.

It could also be that Pete brought them into the house (not the ferals).  We just learned that the kind of worms we can see by the base of his tail are from ingesting fleas.  We spotted more of them (after several weeks without them) this past Thurs., and got stuff from the vet right away that same day.

They hadn't told us previously that that type of worm is from him eating fleas. That might have been nice to know the first time, but at least now we know, and will know what to do if it happens again.
