Thanks Bill, I'll keep an eye out for a CCA solution.

I've also tried to put LMS on a Synology NAS but I can't get it to work. I can only instal LMS version 7.7.6, and the RP FLAC stream seems to need a later version than that.

  Hi Bill...

There are some streams at 700 VBR FLAC , they sound almost as good as a 1,400kbps stream . No real need for a 1,400 kbps Flac stream in my opinions, but those who own a good sound system , with ASIO,  kernel streaming or Wasapi would be very happy to have a nice surprise :-)

So if someone want R.P. in Flac , they can connect a USB DAC to their android usb , apple or tablet and output with the DAC.

At least , give us OGG/Vorbis at 320 vbr , or OPUS 320 vbr . ( Variable Bit Rate)   AAC lack some bass and richness.

Hi Bill. Excited about flac. I’m currently using Roon to send out to my 2 separate streamers (Naim and Auralic). Will it be possible to play Flac in the future using this system?

Cheers and thanks again for doing all the DJ’n for me.

The FLAC stream sounds incredible!!! Streaming from my phone to the Sonore Ultrarendu via Shairport. Sounds much better than the 320. This is a welcome addition to anyone with a world class speaker or headphone setup. Thx RP!!!

Is there any chance that we might see Opus streams in the future? A 96Kbps Opus stream would be awesome.

Yes. There's an app for that. Search the Squeezebox forum for "Radio paradise FLAC".

Hi Bill,

I just noticed the FLAC option on Android app as well as Amazon Fire TV app, and was pleasantly surprised. Thank you very much! I see that FLAC option on web player is coming soon.

Can you please also make a FLAC "Stream Link" available? - I currently play "320K AAC stream link" in Linux using Clementine. I noticed that you said that it is a bit complicated. If that is not feasible, some other way to play FLAC in Linux will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I'll see about coming up with a simple Linux app that will work on Pi-based players (or any other Linux platform that allows third-party apps), but that probably won't be until next year sometime.

That would be awesome. I've been using DietPi on a Raspberry Pi 3B to stream via Roon lately with great results. It'd be great if there were some way to add the RP FLAC stream as a source in Roon too.

I like the new FLAC quality on downloaded cache played in my car. At home we listen to RP through our SONOS system. Can/does RP stream through SONOS at FLAC quality?

Hi.  I just wanted to mention that there's been some discussion of this on the Naim forum.

A tech-savvy user has pointed out that apparently Xiph updated the FLAC standard to facilitate 'normal' (ie as opposed to file-based) streaming earlier this year.  To quote his post, 'as of Jan this year there is a standardised way of streaming continuous FLAC using an optimised streaming container and URL'.

This appears to be how the minimstreamer folks implemented the (excellent) BBC trial someone mentioned.

The discussion on the Naim forum is here.

Just FYI, in the hope that it helps.

I'd like to give a big thumbs up to the new FLAC stream you've set up. It sounds SO much better than the lossy streams. I've put the Andriod app on my Sony NW-ZX2 Walkman, and it sounds excellent. I've also been streaming it to a Naim streamer, with good results, although I'm not sure I've found the optimum way to do this yet.
Here in the UK, the BBC set up a trial FLAC stream of Radio 3, and the sound quality was exceptional - Minimserver set up a stream that could play it over UPnP to a streamer, and that was much better than using Airplay or Bluetooth. Something comparable to that for RP would be nice.
Thanks for a great service - now I really must make a donation, as I can see that I'll be making more use of RP in future.

Hey Bill,

thanks for your quick answer, no problem, I can wait and continue with 320k while building my next amp from http://pmillett.com/ {#Biggrin}
Always happy to listen to RP - and support it twice a year - Thanks Bill and Rebecca !

Before arguing about hearing the difference to 320K, I precise my setup : I use a lossless Pi player / iQaudio Pi-DAC+, connected to a tube amp and excellent speakers.
