Worth a repost over there.  Gave me the willies.  Could be what it takes to get me to finally get there and hang em up.

The wife finally quit after her back surgery in July.

Since I can't find the quit-smoking thread:

Australia put cigarettes in standardized packs with graphic labels — and they’re working

As a nonsmoker (my mother claimed none of her kids smoked as a response to all the cigarette ash dropped in our eyes while we were nursing), my only problem is that it is pretty gross to have to look at the packs left around by the smokers.

Melbourne Cup day was yesterday and it is a big deal in Oz. About 100,000 people go to see and be seen and to get piss drunk. Some people actually watch the race. Afterwards the area is covered with an impressive amount of trash and passed-out white trash. It's a public holiday in most of Victoria (we get Bendigo Cup day off instead).  Around the rest of the country work often stops so people can watch the race.
I'm not really interested in fashion but I confess to enjoying the creativity of the women getting 'all frocked up'. I'm only interested from an artistic viewpoint, really. {#Yes}

It's a footbridge across the Yarra River in Melbourne.  They built a bar around the piling under the bridge in the middle of the river.  Unfortunately the river is flooding it out.  The TV news is loving it. 

The fancy building in the background is the Flinders Street train station.

They've had kangaroos up several levels in the car park before, but I don't remember one in the terminal.  Had one cross the road in front of my car today, right in town.

Kangaroo checks in to Australian Airport

Australian police had to lock down part of Melbourne Airport Wednesday after a kangaroo bounced into the terminal and surprised passengers shopping in a pharmacy.

Wildlife rescue volunteers were called in to tranquilise and capture the distressed eastern grey male, which had been hit by a car on his way to the building that services both international and domestic flights.

"Cyrus, as he has been aptly named after one of the helpers on the scene, will be assessed by a vet following his ordeal," Wildlife Victoria said.

Australian comedian Julia Morris broke the news on Twitter, where photographs began circulating of the marsupial in the skincare aisle of the terminal's pharmacy.

"Ok, so I'm at Melbourne airport & a KANGAROO has just jumped into the chemist," she tweeted, with the hashtags #notajoke, #soundslikeajoke, #mustneedaprescriptionfilled.

Australia's national airline, Qantas, features one of the animals on its livery and is known as the "Flying Kangaroo", prompting jokes on social media sites. (...)
