This has been one horrendous week from the viewpoint of domestic security. Let me direct your attention away from the various domestic crises and point you to something I have noticed over the last week or so from a west coast point of view. Take a look at Flightaware.com, a website that tracks the progress of commercial and private aircraft movements - local link here. The observations are from my home airport, KMRY on the west coast of California, but show the movements of all flight planned aircraft flying over that vicinity. The local aircraft movements are shown in bright (cyan?) colors, and all others are shown in green. Zoom in or out to cover the whole Pacific area, and the green ones are what I'm talking about.

There seems to have been an inordinate number of flights to and from the orient. Various destinations to China, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea (Inchon mostly, not so much Seoul) and the Philippines. The planes seem to be almost in convoy. They are almost all commercial flights, except for a few ASA's (CIA?).

Tonight there seemed to be fewer such flights. I have to say seemed, because I have not logged these flights, but just observed that there seemed to be many more of them.

So, are we ramping up for a response to North Korea or what?

Incheon (the airport serving Seoul) is a major airline hub for NE Asia so increases in traffic to that specific airport don't necessarily indicate an increase in traffic to Korea specifically. Plus, Korea's major trading partner these days, Incheon is a business/industry center of SK and our stock market has done well enough to spur some activity. I don't think you're seeing anything unexpected.

I think most of our efforts re: North Korea are directed at getting Russia to apply some pressure. Not sure, I'll probably get set straight on that.

Dunno.  We'll have to wait and see, and see what is spoon fed to us by the MSM.

Right now all some eyes are on Syria.  We have 150 US boots advisors on the ground in Jordan now at the Jordanian-Syrian border with more on the way.  The estimated number is soon expected to be 20k US troops in Jordan.  I researched it a couple of days ago.  We have a new team in the WH with Nagel and Kerry.  Kerry was just awarded 3 Pinnochio's for his statements regarding the fears of foreign students attending US schools.  Nagel is new and untested.

Thanks for the thoughts and especially the link.  Keep your eyes open and ears on the rails.

Mouse over for one example out of many:

  • This looks very strange. It seems to be disguised as a stick, but the eyes at the lower end are a dead giveaway. This is some kind of stick creature, probably similar to a praying mantis.
  • 1.) Encircled stick creature, note short legs and paddle feet on hind end. It seems to be designed to be able to swim also.
  • 2.) This looks like a small hairy creature that seems to be attacking or investigating the "Stick". It better watch out, perhaps it will become food for the "Stick".

Rally cars rock - did you see the other one?  1500 HP car built specifically for Pike's peak, the throttle stuck - ZOOM, barely missed the crowd.
