8) Dave_Mack, I agree with you - the original was a good film. I am sorry to hear it has been "remade". totally unnecesary. I'll still take it in and judge for myself.

I haven't seen the remake, but I wanted to put in a plug for the original Japanese version. It's really a charming little film.

I saw the American remake (most recent one with Richard Gere and Susan Serandon) and loved it. I've been wanting to take Latin dance lessons FOREVER...and just might get off my bum and do it soon!

My favorite...absolute FAVORITE line in the movie, though, was when one of the characters gave their reason for why people get married. "For someone to be a witness to your life."

You can do all sorts of things, accomplishments and have great times...but it's even better when there is one special person to see and experience it all with you. And vice versa.

I agree. The movie had its silly and pop-culture moments. But there were some parts that were pretty profound re: mature relationships. Refreshing to see somthing a bit "real" in the theatres. I also liked Gere's explanation to Sarandon about why he didn't tell her he was taking the dance lessons. Complicated but so true.
Enjoyable. Thumbs up but not epic.
