It's not like football and every other sport don't have their own PED problems though.  I will give you that Selig was much more intent on ignoring it and pretending it just didn't exist than any of the others and it took a good deal longer for us to start to reverse it.  I think we are beginning to catch up with the others though.

Well pace of game and lack of offense are not issues so you're saying you're just going to ...be Wally?

Money rules all, but we know that.  Bsaeball has been resistant to changing the game (no TV times-out like football and basketball), but it's the in-game commercials ...another "speedy-mart stolen base", etc. have become increasingly hard to tolerate.

It is if you primary concern is how many commercials per hour you can have as opposed the less lucrative aspects of the game like the score, stats, and all that other boring stuff that goes on down on the field.   I know I still owe you a good rant but I'm still in mourning.   Let's just watch some baseball instead and hope Youtube doesn't decide to put any adds in it.

Prolly too expensive to the league/other clubs.  But The Cubs certainly should do something befitting his status.

Anybody hear how he died?

You know, down through years there has been a tendency for professional baseball players to demonstrate (often in spectacular fashion) that as a group they just aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. I would mention only Pete Rose, Jose Canseco, and "On Jeff Ears" and you should have no trouble filling it out as large as you like.  I really always liked Lilly though.  He just seemed lie a genuinely nice guy and I was sorry to see him go.  I hope he can figure out how to get some good extremely competent lawyers and get out of it with a minimum of grief.   Hopefully learning a valuable lesson in the process but I wouldn't hold my breath on that last part.  I was watching a game he was pitching once and one of the broadcasters said he had been down in the dugout before the game and Lilly was there just staring at the day's line up card.  Before he went out to the bull pen to warm up he said in a fairly loud voice to no one in particular "I can't believe he's got me batting 9th again today".   You got to love an attitude like that.
