I wonder that too, but the 76% was very consistent for a long time and now the 81% seems to be equally so. *shrug*

Might not be. That kind of change could just be "margin of error".

Yes it usually can to some extent but even if you had been discharging it every time the battery will still loose some efficiency over time.

I have this little app called Coconut Battery that tells you about the state of your device's battery. My current Macbook battery is a couple of years old and I haven't always been religious about charging/discharging it; most of those two years have been simply running while hooked up to the charger. A few weeks ago (I think about the time I replaced my hard drive) I started trying to be more studious about it. At that time, the app showed the battery's current capacity to be 76%. I naturally assumed that this number would continue to decline as the battery aged. However, after these past few weeks of running it down to dead/nearly dead before charging it, the current capacity suddenly shows up as 81%. Is it possible that charging/discharging can actually "heal" the battery? Or is the app just inaccurate?

Batteries have a, for lack of better description, memory of sorts. Most will operate better/longer if they are mostly discharged before re-charging. The short answer is yes.

It's funny because it made the papers.

And it reminds me of the time I was waiting for a bus in San Francisco, about 5 or 6 a.m. A bread delivery van pulled out of the fog and a guy leaned out and said "Are you lookin' for a job?" I said no I'm waiting for the bus. He says "I thought you might be lookin' for a job." And it disappeared into the fog again. One of the more random conversations I've had.

No really.

A woman on the 12300 block of Highway 26 reported that subjects in a white van pulled up to her house, honked horn and offered free bread.
