Since I had some weeds whacked the other day,an ant trail of tears has formed columns and is moving into my garages wood siding.I'm not even going to bomb them, there's a 30 year old decomposed bag of diatomaceous earth sitting 5 feet from their new digs,so their little exoskeleltons will self destruct within a couple weeks.Let them anticide themselves through non toxic means I say.

The weird thing is,they have 2 trails moving in different directions, both carrying eggs(but passing each other in opposite directions).

I wonder if they are splitting into 2 locations and anointing a second queen, thus a second nest.
edit-I wish my brain was as big as an ants so I could figure this out.

Yeah, I just found the complete page on a Flickr site - Frederic Varady was one of the classic illustrators of that era.

Now with the caption it makes sense as an ad for how realistic sounding the Hifi sounded. So its from a 1960 Cowmopolitan.. The reel to reel was current then but the mono Hifi McIntosh models there would have been old already.

It's a cool picture.  I don't know if it was for an ad for one of those products or just an illustration for a magazine story.  Because of the attention to detail, I'm thinking the former.  I'm still trying to figure out what's going on in that picture.  They should know that guy is down on the floor, because his place-setting is still on the table.

The amplifier is likely a McIntosh A116. The speaker it to generic looking to ID and not of the vinyl grinder is shown. Interesting that is shows a pro stereo Crown reel when everything else is high end mono. All those items are mid 50's, likely about '56. The take up reel on the Crown is an "audiotape" brand by Audio Devices (distinctive shaped holes) and they went to 4 holes instead of 5 earlier in the 50's.

Whoever did that had a working knowledge of HiFi equipment as the reel to reel is a Crown CGSX712/714 and the preamp is a McIntosh C108 (or the artist just copied it from a brochure)
