Went to the child-oriented Halloween concert by our little local symphony. It was good fun and matched my attention span. They gave the kids straws so they could conduct (or poke their borthers) as they went along. The stage was decorated for the spooky music and most of the musicians were in costume. All symphony concerts should have audience participation and kids dancing up front.

From the pictures I'm seeing, pretty much every adult in Pete is downtown right now, costumed and walking in the parade with all the kids. The kids then trick-or-treat all the downtown businesses before going back to their neighborhoods for the real deal. Looks like a hoot! We'll have to go next year.

It's an absolute washout for poor trick-or-treaters here—-but then, I'm guessing they're totally used to it in the NW.

We've had maybe 4 kids stop by. Unfortunately, The Breeders' Cup was held in Lexington this weekend, there is a college football game at the stadium three streets way from our house, and the city could have moved trick or treating to last night, but didn't.

So we have tons of candy left. I guess this has to happen every few years to remind us why we usually keep the porch light off, the blinds closed, and we don't buy candy for Halloween.

lily34 just arrived. I think she and Alison are going to watch Rosemary's Baby on Netflix. I might walk down to a neighborhood bar and watch the football game.

I don't think I'm in double digits yet for the entire 30 years I've been living here.  I think it's just that the few kids fairly close by all go into town with friends to do their trick or treating.  The houses are much closer together so they can get a bigger haul without having to cover so much ground there.  It could just be all their parents have told them to stay away from the strange man who lives over there too.  I'm really not sure.

when we first moved here  20 years ago, we had over 300 kids. I just counted what candy is left. I over-estimated. we had about 15. that is the lowest ever.
I think there are more community parties now.

Really sparse here too. Maybe because the town did their annual "Hoo-Doo" last night ... I'm going to have candy leftover! Unheard of.

I really miss decorating the house and having tons of kids com through. Our old neighborhood was one where they drove in vans full of kids and dumped them at the end of the block. All the houses had porches and we had cool old trees and all the neighbors were really in to it, so it was a fantastic fun time.  Now we are a fair distance up a busy road and we are down the hill on a steep driveway. I don't think we've had a single legitimate kid come through at all.

So now we do adult parties. Last night's was almost 100 people. everyone in costume and we helped decorate so I got to go through all the halloween boxes. It was a good time.  I still miss the kiddos though, someday we'll have a house in a good Halloween neighborhood again.

I stopped giving out candy here when Churches started busing kids in from elsewhere are dropping them off right in front of my house after 9pm when I was already out of candy and no-one else had been by in over an hour.
This year no Church buses at least.

I think that may be part of it out here to.  Houses are just too far apart.  You'd burn up almost as many calories collecting your loot as you'd get from eating it.  A lot of them probably go into town to go with their friends.  I remember one year when I was a little kid my brother and I went with a friend of ours who lived in the university's married housing.  A big eight story apartment building entirely filled with young couples with kids.  We  just started at the top and worked our way down and in an hour or so came back with grocery bags full of candy.  It was great.
