Currently, the large front room windows have no way to have any cross ventilation, so I think something that could be opened along the bottom would be nice. They are west facing in a part of the country that gets very hot, so heat reflection is a big concern, too.
Oh... swank! They are all very cool. I do wonder how they have done, over the years. My mom's house was built in the 60s and this summer I'll need to go out there and help her with some modernization, mostly windows. It has the original, single pane aluminum jobbers and they are so inefficient. It's not so much the winter (she's in CA) but the summers. I figure we could get three to four of the major window sets replaced and she'll immediately see savings with efficiency. We've never found another house that shares the plan hers has, and it's very 60s 'open'. I think I'll need to do some painting for her, too. So, that's my plan for the summer. I'm also to work part time while I'm there, too, and try a project I've been dreaming of for a while. We'll see...

 Hold onto your horses, next year.  ANyway you are supposed to be coming to us next!!  and Spain where you're supposed to be going isn't very far from us.  I'm trying to arrange to meet Jacksonstat and Hortense in the South of France for a weekend in May.
PS That house in ?Wallingford is truly outstanding.

well, sorry to disappoint everyone but we are aiming for Italy this year ( which is your equivalent of going to north carolina ). This one arrived in the inbox a bit out of the blue! I'm sure someone will have a fabulous time though and we will save our pennies for up going across the pond maybe in 2014.
