Thanks for that.  Learned a little bit more there.  Definitely something screwy.  Instead of Kapersky its now ESET.  Some said they waited it out.  At least I didn't download the damn thing.

Gonna go looking a little deeper for cookies.  Apparently Win 10 really sux the big one. {#Crashcomp}

This is a FB problem, of which I know nothing about.  Its the wife's thing.

I just got a new Windows 10 machine up and running for P which she does all her FB stuff on (Google Chrome) and after about two weeks she gets this notice about needing to clean up her computer by only using a download from ESET.  She can't get into her account on the new computer until we do this.  She still has full access from this puter.

I've looked around and this is apparently legit and widespread, but pure BS.  The computer is clean.  Run Malwarebytes and Spybot.  Cleaned cookies, history, you name it.

I know that I should be able to remove it after the fact, but WTF is going on with this and FB ?

Anyone else ??

And one more,  it appears that you can use a USB flash drive to add to the onboard RAM capacity.  Anyone tried that yet ?

Never heard of. But this might help: http://jackyan.com/blog/2016/01/when-facebook-forces-you-to-download-their-anti-malware-your-own-antivirus-gets-knocked-out/

iUse iTunes because it's the only player I've found where I can turn off the crap tracks and shuffle whole genres. And because I can sort artists by last name, first name.

i'd recommend just downloading the iso file from ubuntu to a usb stick

very simple

and then just run ubuntu from that usb stick

if you like it (and i believe you will) install it inside of windows

no partitioning required (and no more usb stick)

when you turn on your machine a screen will pop up and ask you if you want to boot ubuntu or windows

choose ubuntu and bada bing!

you're there! a speedy, secure and efficient OS that will download updates automatically

easy peasy

going back to win 7 you won't have any support

whizza!

We're actually replacing an aging Mac Server with this NAS. Really, all we need to do is have it be available to a few LAN users; The old server had its internal drive with just the OS on it; we kept files on an external drive that we could swap out from time to time with an offsite copy, plus we had Apple's Time Machine making a copy of that, and Carbon Copy Cloner making a dupe of it as well. CCC was reliable; Time Machine was finicky because it didn't like how we'd swap out target drives. So the NAS is RAID1, and I think I'm going to lobby for a Cloud backup on top of that. I was thinking Amazon's cloud would be good, but I don't know if you can use it the same way you do Dropbox.

Hey, guess what? Adobe apps don't like working with NAS. Not sure if there's a solution yet, and using a MacOS server things were fine. Now I mount up this Buffalo LinkStation and get all sorts of "file not found" errors or "Application not found" errors. Forums indicate it's just an Adobe issue but we'll see.

not sure of your issues with windows 10, but if you want a simple, fast and effective linux setup, try ubuntu

when you power up your box a screen will appear and ask you which you want to run

i've done many times and it works flawlessly

you'll thank me later

bonus: old machines run well on ubuntu

also if you have a chromebook you can put it on there as well
