It's called "keystoning" or "the keystone effect". Both haresfur and sfw are correct. It is caused by tilting the lens up. When you tilt the lens up, the focal plane is not parallel to the buildings causing the lines to converge. This can be corrected in the camera by using a tilt/shift lens on a small camera or by using a view camera. See Scheimpflug principle. This also deals with the cameras ability to focus due to the difference in distance between the top  and bottom of the image and the focal plane. The distortion can also be corrected in post processing.

You said Scheimpflug.

I think it is because your camera is pointing upward. Don't they make specialized shift lenses to correct for that?

Yes, and the wider-angle shot aggravates the problem. These days it's most easily corrected in photoshop.

Great photo - the ripples in the water go well with the silhouette!

Thanks so much you guys, this was mostly luck as I was shooting through the window of a moving train. If I remember correctly this is on the Canadian side of Boundary Bay, Amtrak from Vancouver to Seattle.

That's about 3:00PM and SSW at this time of year. Still very pretty though.  (oops, just realized it was August - so 10:30 PM, due west, and still taken while wearing shorts).

Reminds me of what I love about kayaking, although if this is still an ebb tide, they may have to wait if they need to return upstream.

And yeah, beautiful mountains.

Pretty good for a train shot. I like the cool shapes made by the water and land, and the mountains in the background.
