We just did it going the other direction... Soda Lake Rd from SR166 North to SR58, then East on SR58 to I5. Soda Lake Rd is 50 Miles, mostly dirt road through the Carrizo Plain National Monument, non-stop flowers on both sides. I'll admit that my words are cliche but it was amazing. I'm still working on the Joshua Tree National Monument superbloom pictures from a couple of weeks ago, but Carrizo Plain National Monument pictures may top them.

Yes, Highway 58.  I've ridden these roads every year for the last 3 decades and I have to say they've never been more beautiful.  I was riding with the woman pictured in the distance on the road and we had helmet communicators - the whole time we were saying it was like riding though a painting.  She went on ahead when I stopped to take this photo, and the last thing I heard before she went out of range was "Oh, there's even a windmill!" :-)

Anyone in driving distance, git off yer butt and go for a drive in the countryside!
 My wife and I were in San Luis Obispo the last few days and we drove through Turri Road.
It was just as green as was Hwy. 58 in your photo.
AND there was a windmill on the side of the road just like in your picture!
I was going to stop and take a shot, but we were on a "shopping mission" for my wife. {#Cheesygrin}
No goofing off when that happens.

No, we've been doing this so long we have our own posse :-)  This photo was taken coming back from Death Valley which we do every year.  I do a few events a year with the NorCal BMW club, and another event called the Adventure Rally in the Sierras, that's the extent of rides organized by others.

I just wondered because my Aunt brings a group out from the East Bay to her 2nd home here every summer; thought it would be amusing if you'd been part of one of those groups...

Indeed. I remember taking back roads from Ft. Ord south down to the Arroyo Seco gorge some 43 years ago. So beautiful...I doubt much has changed.

Except me I guess. Dang I'm getting old...
