Do you know about this?

I'm not saying I do,I've never been sick(other than the occasional beer bottle to the head) but it might be worth looking into for what you do.

Keep doing it.

I thought we were supposed to have "affordable health insurance" now.  It's only affordable for those earning over $60,000 a year.  That's for an individual.  If you have children you will need more!

I certainly don't make $60,000. I make about 2/3's of that.

And many things in the the new plan don't kick in until 2014.

it is going to be really difficult to do at that price. Being the only employee at my place of employment I have an individual plan that costs $1,000/month. I pay 20% and the employer the rest. Have you looked into Health Savings Account (HSA) options? (click here)

it's only going to get worse when the new plan goes into effect for the country. it's going to be even more expensive for me.

as i recall, i haven't (or i can't remember if i can) but i'll check it out. thank you.
*EDIT*

yeah, that's not going to work for me, either

how can it be worse?

It is supposed to be the "Affordable Healthcare Act". :)

anyone have any recommendations for reasonable/affordable health insurance for an individual in the united states?
by affordable, i mean well under $250/month. my employer offers it, but i can't afford their matching price that comes directly out of my paycheck. and i need to find something reasonable. already checked out humana one, and another local place, and not finding much at all. getting really discouraged. again.
