Too bad about the sound.  I last saw him forty years ago in an elegant theater.  Was great, as I still recall.
I am happy to see so many older musicians still working and doing it well. Emmylou, Rolling Stones, Eric Burdon, Leon, Dr. John, and on and on.  I am sure Bruce Springsteen will play 'til he drops.  He has said so, anyway.
Nobody told Mississippi Fred or Muddy Waters to retire!  I was privileged to see both towards the end of their careers.

It has almost been 38 years since i last saw Leon...Willie Nelson's Fourth of July and America's birthday party in 1976...Now that was a party...Just me and Willie and about 80,000 of his friends.

Yes. 70s singer-songwriters. BJ, for better or worse (worse), at least tried different genres (Linda Ronstadt did the same) but both of them got their start by annoying the crap out of me.

Yeah, I know. I'm not a Billy J. hater....I had some of his albums back in the day, and even saw him in concert once. His aunt lived in my home city and my sister knows her.

It's just that JT, to me, is in a whole other category completely—based on what he writes about, his lyrical style, his folksy nature and stuff like that.

EDIT: I must confess, though, I DO hate the song Piano Man. It sets my teeth on edge and it's WAY too long...especially when someone does it at karaoke.....gah!

Other than the money I bet BJ hates it in a way too...

James' music  came out at an important period in my life...I think that has a lot to do with why/how I love the music I love...Where I was when I first heard it and where does the music take me now. Those are the biggies for me...It takes me back or it takes me away...Music...I fucking love it.

Honestly, me too. Telluride was the only one I've ever attended where people kept respectful spacing and didn't tromp over anyone's tarp/blanket.

But the people who come in late, cram themselves into space where they really can't fit, and then text ten of their friends to come cram in next to them—displacing and crowding all the people who DID wait there a long time....well, I don't know if I could keep myself from punching them in the throat, AND stabbing them. Them and the people who yack the whole time, even during ballads.

So I get ya.
