Nice.  I'm seeing him in Bay Shore in an old movie theater that seats about 250.

That'll be cool. I saw The Bears **cough** years ago in San Francisco. I remember him being pretty funny. Quiet, but funny.

I saw them too! Canal Street Tavern, Dayton, OH. One of the best, most packed-out live shows that venue has ever seen.

Sean-E's stepmom has a good friend who's been in a few bands in his lifetime — one of them being a trio with a style VERY much like Belew. When I told the guy (his name is Billy), he was pretty flattered. I'm still trying to get him to make me a CD of their stuff (they won a NW rock band competition once, and then disbanded, but I got to see their half-hour reunion 2 years ago here in town).

EDIT:  Sean-E might know Billy too.

Review?....?

I wish I had a review, but I'm on the wrong coast for this show. Its a group of San Fransisco musicians that are putting a different spin on The Who. Maybe I'll get lucky and they will take this out East.

Not coming to a theater near me, but I got my eye open for a show with Whograss. Songs of the Who done bluegrass style.

if you can, you should. i've seen him in concert a few times (ok, late 80's then) and he really puts on a great show. agree with scott about his band, too.

also, i have heard some of his most recent stuff, and it's pretty decent.

I've seen him twice.  Once about 20 years ago - he put on a good show, and I enjoyed it muchly.  The other time was, what, 4 (?) years ago? He was almost mechanical.  Very stiff.  It was just ok.

that show's so country it serif'd the font.

edit:

I saw Mellencamp once, that was enough, but his band is strictly pro and versatile. If they're doing non-Cougar stuff, it'll be interesting. Carlene is cleaned up, I hear. Would be interesting to get her life story over the last 20-odd years.

The Smithereens tonight at 9. I hope I can stay awake that late. I am priming my brain with beer. It might be too early for that.

Well New Jersey, I guess. I only ever talked to him on the phone, and in a "professional" context, not social, so I dunno.

Yeah, that's just what they told me. They do live in Queens ... maybe their friend lived in Jersey. Long time ago. People were younger.

oh, trust me, i do too, because of exactly that. saw him do a solo thing in a bar on bleeker st in NYC in the late 80s and he was a pencil.
that was a long time ago, though.

I'd seen them a few times in small clubs around NY and NJ, early on - some before they were signed.  Friends of mine had a band that were on the same bill with them a once or twice.  I didn't talk to Pat that much, but Dennis, the drummer, was a real nice guy.  They were a fun band and put on a good show.
