One day I was playing a record and someone was walking around the house and not stomping but still, it was getting to the speakers: boomboomboom... one of the tiny felt/rubber/whatever pads, about 1/4" diameter, that sit at the corners of the lid? Yeah one was missing and so the lid was sitting right on the turntable base. I unplugged the turntable so the motor wouldn't turn, set the needle on the record (still getting power to the cartridge), and you could use that turntable lid as a crude microphone.

{#Yes}  I heard the table come down in the monitors as I hit record and I keep going I hope its not as bad as it sounds.  yes it is.

Yeah, that's the reason for the question.  Long ago, I knew this but it didn't matter cuz like you said shit happens so I forgot about it.  But now it is critical play, ripping for keeps and I said oh yeah, we haven't done this yet and so I tried it and yeppers it makes a difference.

thanks.  much obligo

Normal play: on and down. Not so much for the dust but for random objects. The "Shit Happens" principle; I always preferred to have that layer of protection in case I dropped my DiscWasher or something.

Critical play: completely off. It picks up motor hum and room noise and sends it to the stylus, so in a beanbag/headphones session, the lid stayed off.

Over the years, if anyone were to address me with some name other than my own, it was Kevin, 99.99% of the time.

Just now, I received another such thing - an email sent to my personalized (obvious) email address, yet the salutation is "Hi Kevin, ".

This after speaking to the supplier mere hours ago on the phone.

But I honestly don't think it's an age thing. The guys I rode with are the same age, and they're fine. Other women older than me do this, and they recuperate in a timely fashion. Perhaps it's just that it's the biggest, longest, hilliest ride I've done (to date) and I'm not in the regular swing of that kind of exertion.

Normally muscle ATP regenerates (like it's supposed to) and you're normal after a couple of days. But any sort of exertion (like swimming laps or a long walk) is still wearing me out after 4 days.
