It's likely a taste you need not acquire.  What's to be gained at this point - a 40-minute version of "Good Lovin'"?  Just stick with the grilled cheese.

Hmmm.  Saw the link you sent me.  OTC reading glasses are a real crap shoot.  The anti glare coating (A/R) is wonderful, yes.  Your Maui's have it.  I have it, wouldn't have any without it.  Yet, you got lucky to score a pair of OTC readers with it.  It is rare at this level.

We don't carry readers anymore because no one wants to pay what we charge when you can get them anywhere for a fraction of our (or any optical shop's) prices.  OTC readers are designed for impulse buying with a life span of 30 to 90 days.  Quality is rare.  Everything is a limited run.  They're gone, they're gone, they're gone forever.  If you find a style you like, buy three or four of them, but only after you've tried them out and like the way they work and feel.

The style you showed me is what I would call a traditional minimalist look over.  Very nice and functional.  Can't speak for the quality.  There is no way they are worth the full price, ever.  That much I can tell you.

Foster Grant says they can add AR on some lenses.  Eyebobs are excellent frames, yet no AR.  Eyebobs are as close to optical grade reader frames that you can get in an OTC mode.  Have actually worked with Eyebobs and would recommend them.

When its all said and done though, and if you take care of your glasses, get some good ones from your optical shop.  When you add up the cost of constantly breaking, cheap OTC stuff, it works out the pretty close to the same.

HTH ...

Thanks, man! I see that Foster Grant makes some "eReaders" which might be the ticket.

I appreciate your input.

This is a question for the resident Eye Expert, Kurtster.

I just broke the nice but over the counter (at an optical store, not drugstore) readers that had an anti-glare coating, so they were great for the computer. I went back to the same shop today and they didn't have any over the counter ones with the coating.

Should I suck up the cost of getting prescription readers, though I don't need different Rxs for each eye, so that I can get (pay the extra cost for) the coating?

Or can I find something worth buying online or maybe even in a big box store?

I did a little online window shopping and it seems like there are only two options out there: computer glasses with coating but no magnification, or bifocals with coating. Neither is what I really need.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
