Don't watch a lot of TV but I caught an episode of this and it was funny as hell...

Image result for better late than never
ok, hell's not funny (witness election '16) and I'm easily amused...

When I first heard the intro, I was immediately reminded of the theme from Boardwalk Empire.  Not that they're similar in tune, but they share some sonic qualities that catch my ears - and again, a tune from 1996 for a show that's set in the 20's.

It's pretty cool, how unexpected some of it is. The timeline is between WW1 and 2; they're somewhere in the early 30s now, I think.

Bowie loved it and asked that they put some of his music in it. That got my attention - but it became great on its own merits.

We watched the first episode or two, then lost our way. I really think we need to dedicate ourselves to binge watching series like this. And, yes, it does remind me a lot of Miller's Crossing.

Another one we discovered recently is Top of the Lake. It's on Netflix, too.

Just starting up Stranger Things. My wife is enjoying it - and of course people will, since it has completely stolen from
Poltergeist
ET
Close Encounters
Super8
even Evil Dead
and many others.

It galls me that younger people are watching this, enjoying the cool parts, and then - when they see the classic movies that had the original ideas - will say "hey, they stole that from that TV show..."

Turns out it was Syd Barrett! I wonder if he was one of Beck's inspirations.

There are a few Syd Barrett references in that episode; the kid has several posters of Barrett on his walls.

Beck's a sponge so I'm sure it's true.
