I've used Spectracide's Bug Stop spray for the past few years and it works great. Spray it once, and they don't come back. Your PNW ants might be tougher than our AZ ants, but this stuff has worked for me. No odor or staining on fabric/carpet surfaces. Apparently it's safe for pets once it has dried.

Looking at their website, I see they also have an ant-specific product too.

What is the most successful eradicator of those teeny-tiny ants (that keep invading my cat's food wherever I keep moving it)?

My housemate gave me the sticky stuff that they're supposed to eat and take back to the colony to poison them (I called it the Jim Jones treatment - heh) and apparently that wasn't deadly enough.

I've tried the spikes you put in the ground around the perimeter of the home for carpenter ants, and I'm wondering if they'll work - these bastards seem to be residing in the southern walls.

My housemate also said the "ant hotels" didn't work either.

GAHHH!!! I'm tired of having to deal with them swarming all over Ceili's food—which she doesn't eat when they're on it.

Every year about this time I get invaded by those ants. They come in the kitchen and go to the sink and then back out. The stuff I use works great and they are gone with in 2-3 days. The ants take it back to their nest and takes them all out.  And they are safe around pets.

This is a great long term solution.  Use it here when needed (which has been a long time now) and at my Mom's house just about a month ago.  It does work.  Need to place them near where they are most likely to be.  May take a month before you notice any improvement.  Then you suddenly notice that you don't see them anymore.  Relatively inexpensive, too.

I've seen those before at my mom's house. So - are they pet safe? Because the ants are sometimes coming in right near the floor where the cats walk around. The poison's pretty well contained, right? Does this have the Jim Jones-style of poisoning?
