"The Complete Course in Authentic Celtic Druidism" it says in large lettering on the back... what a lie. The mere fact that Monroe felt compelled to write yet another book (The Lost Books of Merlyn: Druid Magic From the Age of Arthur) should be enough of a tip that it indeed isn't complete. However there is still more to say about this book.
One should know that we know virtually nothing about Celtic druidism, and that claiming that anything practiced by modern day people is authentic is a lie in itself, but Monroe takes the lie to higher levels in not only quoting texts which were written by Romantic druids, trying to fake an ancient druidic document, but also by stealing one of his 'ancient druidic charms' from the movie Excalibur by John Boorman --phonetically transcribed even, or a very poor excuse for Gaelic. "To activate the order, recite 3 times the Druidic CHARM OF MAKING as restated below from chapter13, Echoes of the Ancient Stone: ANAIL NATHROCK UTHVASS BETHUDD DOCHIEL DIENDE" Apparently actor Nicol Williamson who played Merlin in this 1981 movie is enough of a druid for this material to be valid for Monroe, and John Boorman enough of a source. One of the most prominent websites concerning the movie states: The Charm of Making is composed from Gaelic and Welsh words along with made up sounds. John Boorman has stated that it is old Gaelic, but a number of Celtic Linguists state that it is not and contend that words were made up to be more pleasing to the ear.` 21 Lessons Of Merlin, by Douglas Monroe I bet it's a good book. |
