To answer some questions...

What motivated me to move to a foreign country was actually just a fear of accepting a teaching job in Canada and finding myself settled down sooner than I was ready for. Once someone joins a particular school board, it becomes difficult to change. So I wanted to travel and make some money doing what I love (teaching) until I could decide where I wanted to finally make my home. Ironic, huh...

I have a lot of friends here in Korea. Many of them are also English teachers from the U.S., Canada, and other English speaking countries. The only problem is that they have a tendency to be transient. Fortunately, I also have some close Korean friends -- teachers I used to work with in a previous job, and some former students who are around my age.

After reading someone else's journal entry, I'm suddenly inspired to write something about myself.
I've been living in Korea for 3 years now -- in fact, it will be 3 years exactly tomorrow. At first, it was just a one-year teaching job at a private institution. After spending the year studying Korean, making close friends, and falling in love with this country (at times hating it too -- it's not easy to be an "outside-country person" here sometimes!) I decided to stay for one more year and found a better job at a university.
Well... if it was hard to leave after one year, it was that much harder after 2... so I found a short contract, just 4 months, and then I knew I'd be ready to go. Right before the 4 month contract started, however, I fell in love with a Korean man.
So you see, now I'm practically Korean... We're getting married next year. As much as I'd like to take him to back to Canada with me, it looks like he'll never be able to get the kind ...
