Johnny Cash - Hurt (May 05, 2013 - 17:44) | VERY smooth transition from Rodrigo y Gabriela, it was like the song just continued right into this.

Another fabulous clarinetist is Pete Fountain. I grew up listening to him thanks to my dad's eclectic music collection. Great stuff.

I have a moderate liking for Coldplay and have a couple of their albums (bought from charity shops - I wouldn't pay full whack for them) and they are easy on the ear but to these lugholes they're a bit...cold. Unemotional. The sort of music you'd hear played in lobbies of corporate buildings. Suit music. Musically accomplished and decent songwriters, for sure, but just detached and uninspiring. 5 from the unmoved Nottingham jury. I can understand and agree with some of what you're saying here, fredriley from Nottingham, except for Viva la Vida, which works ever-so-well as a concept album and contains one of the most excellent intros (Life in Technicolor) and songs about living multiple lives (Viva la Vida). In my humble opinion, nearly every song on that album is top-notch.
(I do like quite a few other Coldplay songs, although nothing from Mylo Xyloto.)

And I'm hanging on 'cause I wanna And the feeling's gone but I gotta And I'm hanging on 'cause I wanna And the feeling's gone but I gotta
Iron heart, and my broken arm The train derailed, I'm feeling failed We ran away until we reached the States The night became a darker shade of purple gray Bush fire in my phone lines A no-man's land, wasted space and then The lights went out and the voices shouted Black bagged me then they dragged you screaming out the door
And I'm hanging on 'cause I wanna And the feeling's gone but I gotta And I'm hanging on 'cause I wanna And the feeling's gone but I gotta
'Cause I wanna But I gotta 'Cause I wanna But I gotta
Machine guns. Afghanistan, Microwaves, and pepper spray, Poison darts, and throwing stars Strike my heart and leave me lying in the gutter
'Cause I wanna But I gotta 'Cause I wanna But I gotta

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water (Jun 25, 2011 - 13:35) | Kathlou wrote: Such a beautiful song, Paul Simon is in my 'greatest songwriters of all time' list. The best version of this though is their Live in Central Park concert, unbelievable. Agreed! The live version sounds like they're playing it for the first time publicly. At first you can hear the audience thinking, "What the ... ?" but at the end they are on their feet with a huge ovation. It is a transforming performance!

Peter Gabriel - Mercy Street (Jun 23, 2011 - 16:59) | For me, the melody is haunting and wistful and sad and hopeful all at the same time.
A combination rarely achieved, and much appreciated.

Dengue Fever - Durian Dowry (Jun 10, 2011 - 12:44) | First time hearing this. Not sure I could rate it yet, but I must say it was an interesting listening experience.
