Tame Impala - It Is Not Meant To Be
(Jul 05, 2012 - 10:33)

Beattle-Esque

Van Morrison - Little Village
(Jul 03, 2012 - 09:50)
 Cynaera wrote:
I love the way he's controlling his voice, instead of yielding to wild vocal histrionics. This is a really good song. And yeah - the sax is good, too...{#Cowboy}

As he's aged he's become "The Great Mumbler" . . .

High Violets - X-tasy
(Jun 29, 2012 - 12:53)
Time Test Bump 8 from 7  =)

Nerina Pallot - Lot Like Heaven
(Jun 26, 2012 - 11:42)
Tori-Apple?

Tim Buckley - Buzzin Fly
(Jun 20, 2012 - 10:07)
Taking a melodic journey back in time to a place and time of sweet scents and loving memory, of a snapshot in my life when the world was spinning true, and here I am today thinking of you . . . that special woman from way back.  Great Tune!

Amy Macdonald - Across the Nile
(Jun 20, 2012 - 08:19)
Hitting 7 out of the gate - liking thus far

The La's - There She Goes
(Jun 19, 2012 - 13:33)
Advil Voice - Ugh

Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban - Echale Salsita
(Jun 19, 2012 - 13:20)
I agree with many - the whole album is very nice

Hem - The Fire Thief
(Jun 12, 2012 - 13:23)
Bump +1 to 8 having stood the test of a little time   ;-)

Leo Kottke - A Child Should Be A Fish
(May 15, 2012 - 12:14)
Something very not of this place, this daiy routine of A to B.  To me this tune takes me somewhere else, neither here or there, and I like it, and so the good people did cheer . . . "Hoo Rah".

Journey - Wheel in The Sky
(May 14, 2012 - 08:15)
I like it, and from the ratings it is a quite diverse set of feelings on this one

Cowboy Junkies - Staring Man
(Apr 16, 2012 - 12:45)
Still would like to hear some energy behind very good lyrics and instrumentation.

Madrugada - Majesty (Live)
(Mar 21, 2012 - 13:14)
The closing guitar rift really brings it home, WOW!

Mumford & Sons - Roll Away Your Stone
(Mar 15, 2012 - 08:00)
The keyboardist distracts from watching them live.  Nice tune however

Asaf Avidan - Painting On The Past
(Mar 13, 2012 - 09:01)
Unpleasant and the word drawl come to mind all at once, something I would expect to hear during a dark sour movie scene with rain and rusty nails all about.

Porcupine Tree - The Sound Of Muzak
(Mar 13, 2012 - 08:48)
There should be a "bump button" that denotes when the tune has been bumped UP.  Today I bump this one, WOO HOO

Bruce Cockburn - Wondering Where the Lions Are
(Mar 12, 2012 - 12:43)
This tune landed at the perfect moment in the day . . . gotta hold on me . . .

Nina Simone - My Baby Just Cares For Me
(Mar 08, 2012 - 09:29)
Sounds great, Love It, but watching videos of Nina is underwhelming  . . .

Sophie Zelmani - If I Could
(Mar 07, 2012 - 11:19)
The album is a cavalcade of sleepiness . . .

Jeff Beck - Rollin' And Tumblin'
(Feb 24, 2012 - 07:19)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuXcGHjBeac

Ry Cooder & Manuel Galban - Drume Negrita
(Feb 15, 2012 - 10:14)
Bumped to a 10 having withstood the "over time" test.  I read somewhere that the sessions were recorded in a plain jane room with nice lighting and an old wood floor . . .

Porcupine Tree - Point 3 (.3)
(Feb 03, 2012 - 08:31)

Hard to believe this group has been around for many years and have never had airplay here in America except for stations like RP.  They have a remarkable sound and over the years have just progressed and supplied me with endless hours of enjoyment. Thanks RP

I agree, would really like to know why we are not hearing this on "FM"?  RP rocks!

Porcupine Tree - Dark Matter
(Jan 24, 2012 - 09:23)
So distinct, upper level stratospheric . . .

Ane Brun - Do You Remember
(Jan 24, 2012 - 09:10)
Hooked me quickly . . . now consuming   ;-)

Imogen Heap - Canvas
(Jan 23, 2012 - 08:22)
Having a new look at Imogen.  Also love the work with Jeff Beck; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuXcGHjBeac

Steve Miller Band - Your Saving Grace

Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

Bob Marley - No Woman, No Cry
(Dec 28, 2011 - 11:59)

(Dec 16, 2011 - 14:38)
Sure is fun ain't it

Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On
(Dec 16, 2011 - 14:17)
When you hear a tune so many times it is easy to critique it.  The coo-ing could be a little less obvious   ;-)   Still a great tune however

The Boxer Rebellion - Step Out of the Car
(Dec 09, 2011 - 14:02)
The tune started up as a Feist  . . . . then all the cylinders fired up . .

Poe - Wild
(Dec 09, 2011 - 12:38)
Center of the Sun from POE is very good . . .

Pearl Jam - Alive
(Dec 09, 2011 - 12:24)

(Dec 08, 2011 - 07:53)
Top end of 7 - impressed each time I hear this

Has a KOOP startup engine no?

Mike Scott - Bring 'em all in
(Nov 23, 2011 - 07:03)

She really hits it in this one . . . home run!

As earlier, yah, follow this with Silver Sun Pickups, Steve Wilson (Harmony Korine), Porcupine Tree, & Lush ;-) Indeed

Tom Waits - Talking At The Same Time
(Nov 16, 2011 - 07:51)

(Nov 14, 2011 - 11:57)

Some Say Leland - Found Myself Lost
(Nov 02, 2011 - 16:01)

(Oct 07, 2011 - 15:17)

I've heard it said that it is her style . . .
I find it pleasant but underwhelming

Adele - Someone Like You
(Sep 28, 2011 - 08:00)

(Aug 05, 2011 - 13:46)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_a_Wonderful_World

Now, to those who think these two songs contradict each other, do you still hold the same opinion?

This song very well could've been a subtle protest song — or a lament of the loss of Hawi'ian culture using the words of the non-islanders — or who knows what else?  It could've also been meant to be as simple and beautiful as it seems and nothing more.

Ian Brown meets Porcupine Tree that meets . . . ?

(Nov 20, 2008 - 13:59)
This version not working it for me

Waterboys - Sweet Thing
(Nov 20, 2008 - 07:13)
Would be nice to have a day of songs that have artists and their siblings, or original and cover, etc - -

I would like to hear Van's daughter . . .

You should hear Van's daughter Shana Morrison's version of this song — it's excellent. Unfortunately, when I try to add any of her songs to RP they get voted down

Ray LaMontagne - Be Here Now
(Nov 19, 2008 - 08:26)
Does he smoke?  *Shrug, I like the song, flows well, fades off nicely . . . in a series his cadence/voice wears on my however.

The Doors - Riders On The Storm
(Nov 18, 2008 - 13:25)
. . . East of Seattle we get a lot of rain and it seems the local broadcasters do not tire of this song, even as we head into the long-grey winter.   I like the song, but it does drag on when we hear it often for months on end    ;-)

Paul Simon - I Know What I Know
(Nov 18, 2008 - 12:42)
I cannot think of a reason why anyone would high-shriek like that in the background, at a sporting event, or even winning the lotto.  I'm at a loss

Robert Plant & Alison Krauss - Nothin'
(Nov 17, 2008 - 14:18)
How is this pleasant to listen to?

Cowboy Junkies - Highway Kind
(Nov 17, 2008 - 12:30)
Here at the Sleepy-Time Drifters Hollow, we imbue sorrow and sadness into our aged beef and cheddar sandwiches.  Please feel free to come on by and by all means drop a quarter in the dusty juke, then settle into the sun and the cracked leather couch for some dreamy Zzzzz.

Peter Gabriel - Love To Be Loved
(Nov 14, 2008 - 10:47)

. . . chase this with Deep Forest - sounds similar

Laura Gibson - Broken Bottle
(Nov 13, 2008 - 08:51)
Would be nice if I was recovering from the flu and did not want loud noise or bright light around me . . . perhaps?

Van Morrison - Little Village
(Nov 13, 2008 - 08:23)
The mumbling and stumbling of the lyrics is old . . . annunciate Van, please!

Dire Straits - Water Of Love
(Nov 11, 2008 - 10:06)
Still think it would be awesome to do a decent Western Movie with music by Dire Straits -

Herbie Hancock - Cantaloupe Island
(Nov 11, 2008 - 08:54)

Instantaneous movement of the soul . . .

Shuggie Otis - Sweet Thing
(Nov 11, 2008 - 07:29)
Wondering if Mark Knopfler picked up something from this . . . the intro had that Dire sound to it? *Shrug

Brian Eno - Dead Finks Don't Talk
(Nov 10, 2008 - 13:55)
I thought there was a policy against squeezing seagulls and pelicans?

Patty Griffin - Goodbye
(Nov 10, 2008 - 08:42)
The live version has a bit at the end about what she was thinking about with regard to this song.  The live version is something to take in and absorb . . . do a live version of this followed by a live version of Majesty, THAT would be a duo-set

Bob Dylan - Day Of The Locusts
(Nov 10, 2008 - 07:48)

*shrug . . . a label does not a great song make

Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien
(Nov 06, 2008 - 09:39)
Lead voice does not do it for me.  Sounds like he's come off a bad fair ride and is about to huck . . .

Ray LaMontagne - Empty
(Nov 06, 2008 - 09:32)
Have Nick Drake River Man follow Ray . . . I'd like to hear the contrast.

Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah
(Nov 06, 2008 - 09:16)
 . . . as had been written

Yep.  Buckley's is in another category entirely.

Nick Drake - Cello Song
(Nov 04, 2008 - 08:06)
Thanks all  . . . yah, everytime I here this song I am locked in sorrow and sadness, and am moved by the lyrics.  My wife and I did the Breast Cancer 3-day 60 mile walk this year.

So many are fighting and losing . . . and winning. One of those events in life that puts things back into perspective.  I was glad to have lent a hand . . .

Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris - Rollin' On
(Nov 04, 2008 - 07:18)

I'd like to hear this with Alison Krauss instead of Emmylou . . . her voice pierces a bit

Dick Dale - Miserlou
(Nov 03, 2008 - 15:22)
I always wanna hear a Buddy Rich solo in this also . . . . *Sigh  ;-)

Ray Charles - What'd I Say (Parts I & II)
(Nov 03, 2008 - 14:49)

Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting Ting . . . with the organ, subtle drums . . .  and Ray . . . . classic for all time

Ben Harper - Steal My Kisses
(Nov 03, 2008 - 10:13)

. . . It would be interesting to NOT see comments until after one has posted.  This is an OK tune, would like to see a bit more depth and richness in the lyrics.  The rif does not change much . . .

Bobby Boris Pickett - Monster Mash
(Oct 31, 2008 - 13:52)
Hey - It's Halloween . . .

Beck - Loser

(Oct 22, 2008 - 12:14)
Fluffy little clouds and baked cookies with a hint of sleepiness in it

(Oct 17, 2008 - 12:41)
Over and Over and Over and Over . . . pause, wait for it . . . aaaaand again, over and over and over . . . .

Truly an amazing voice, watched a PBS broadcast in awe at the effortless strenght in her voice

Gipsy Kings - Inspiration
(Oct 16, 2008 - 06:58)
7:00 AM . . . having arrived at 6:00 AM, battling a nice cold, and then this . . . . I ought turn around head home and nap all the day long with this tune in my mind.   - Very Nice -

The Dandy Warhols - Godless
(Sep 15, 2008 - 13:41)
When my son was quite young I said, "You are the horns", and he said "I am the horns"? . . . . . . . wait for it, wait, listen . . . . to this day he hears all the other instruments in songs that some people miss.

Neko Case - The Needle Has Landed
(Aug 20, 2008 - 12:46)
Does Neko write her own music?  Would love to see here in Seattle - great voice and a good mix, never seems redundant

Johnny Cash - I Walk The Line
(Aug 20, 2008 - 07:55)
Subtle but strong . . . timeless

Widespread Panic - This Part of Town
(Aug 08, 2008 - 10:57)
And so the producer was like . . . "be sullen and neglect to have any soul or substance with this particular track", and so it had been said and was thus recorded.

Van Morrison - These Are The Days
(Aug 07, 2008 - 13:47)
I hear consistent VM tracks and chorus on many of his tunes, kind of yawn and ponder music.  Annunciation is not tops with VM, and at least it is not as bad as the Be Good Tanya's.  His early stuff was quite diverse and had more soul in it . . .

The Smashing Pumpkins - Drown
(Aug 01, 2008 - 13:56)
One of those "locks a time-memory" for me tunes - very nice

This piece really moves around, but without any friction. A bit of magic here . . .
Nick Drake - Pink Moon
(Jul 09, 2008 - 08:23)
I normally hear the words, and while this is a unique cog in the great wheel of music, had to say I laughed when I read,

"Soey witten on a soysay...

Sign yo pitty on da runny kine...

Ping ping ping...

Wa da tay my nay nay!"
Elbow - My Very Best
(Jul 09, 2008 - 08:01)
Sounded a bit like Porcupine Tree with Peter Gabriel . . . as others have mentioned. Interesting

(Jul 08, 2008 - 12:55)

The live version echo's in the soul . . .
Nick Drake - Things Behind The Sun
(Jul 08, 2008 - 07:14)
Nick's voice and the instrument selection (strings) ring out like no other. The lyrics are unique, and I find that when a Nick Drake tune comes on . . . it is distinctly different, causing pause in my day. I like it

(Jul 07, 2008 - 10:17)

Nick Drake - Fly
(Jun 17, 2008 - 13:17)
My mom fell in love with this song as one of her all time favorites, and I think the lyrics rang well within her soul during her fight with cancer, ultimately lost . . . she had this on the way out . . . and I will always believe she wanted a second go-round - "Please give me a second grace. Please give me a second face.
I've fallen far down, the first time around, now I just sit on the ground in your way."

I like the transition to the end game of this tune - cranberry-esque
Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
(May 22, 2008 - 13:31)
In a high school class in Washington State, and in such a class where the music was more for the "kids", this tune came on for the first time . . . and the class went silent in awe and wonder, and the teacher lifted his head and asked . . . "Who is this"? Greatness

This song will have deep meaning to all at some point in life . . . great tune!

The BGT singer that has "issues" really tossed this one off kilter
Led Zeppelin - Thank You
(May 02, 2008 - 07:50)

Nick Drake - Cello Song
(Apr 24, 2008 - 12:31)
My mom passed away months after battling cancer. She came to love this as her new favorite song . . . She never did get hold of the lyrics but loved the music and in what she could understand. So if you should see her . . . . lend a hand :-)

Strange face, with your eyes
So pale and sincere.
Underneath you know well
You have nothing to fear.
For the dreams that came to you when so young
Told of a life
Where spring is sprung.

You would seem so frail
In the cold of the night
When the armies of emotion
Go out to fight.
But while the earth sinks to its grave
You sail to the sky
On the crest of a wave.

So forget this cruel world
Where I belong
I'll just sit and wait
And sing my song.
And if one day you should see me in the crowd
Lend a hand and lift me
To your place in the cloud.
