All India Radio - The Bomb (Jun 10, 2012 - 17:18) | boring and unoriginal. like white rice with no side dish and not even water to wash it down with.
|
Florence and The Machine - What the Water Gave Me (May 09, 2012 - 15:18) | Soooooo weary of this band... they are everywhere... and they aren't even all that great or oringinal... sure she's got a set of pipes like the horn on a mack truck, but so does Neko Case, and she doesn't annoy me half as much as this gal does. At least Neko has some dynamic range. Flo is always set on 11. Saw a live performance on TV, some late show, I don't remember... I get the sense that *somebody* takes themselves a little too seriously.
Can we perhaps hear them here more sparingly? Like 2-3x per week instead of 2-3x per day?

Lost In The Trees - Walk Around The Lake (Feb 22, 2012 - 16:33) | I like this.
It sounds a lot like the Bowerbirds, who are from Raleigh (same area as this band who is from Chapel Hill).. Unfortunately the Bowerbirds haven't gotten any love here... I uploaded some stuff to the LRC with no luck.
I'd like to hear more of this band.. I think I hear a saw in this song... remniscent of another Chapel Hill band, Trailer Bride... must be a NC thing

Stevie Wonder - I Believe (Feb 22, 2010 - 15:52) | I think I posted this story somewhere else too... but its such a good one...
Friend of mine who is a flight attendant was on a plane Stevie Wonder was flying on back in the 1980's. He had bought the entire first-class section of the plane, under the pseudonym "Mr. Fudge." At some point during the flight, one of Stevie's entourage got... erm... familiar with Mr. Wonder. Here's my friend's imitation of her flight-attendant college after the flight:
"I saw Stevie Wonder get a blow job! I saw Stevie Wonder get a blow job! Stevie Wonder didn't see Stevie Wonder get a blow job... but I saw Stevie Wonder get a blow job!"

Well, alright, I'll give you that one. A-ha's lead singer really took a girl into a newspaper comic strip? You seem to want rather narrow musical boundaries. Paul McCartney wrote a song for you. It's called "Silly Love Songs." No. Absolutely, that is almost just exactly unlike what I am saying.
Al Stewart was a soldier in WWII (Roads to Moscow), Gillian Welch was an Orphan Girl, Johnny Cash was a Boy Named Sue... etc. ad nauseum.
What I AM saying is if you're going to do it, at least convince me. Vienna fails. Miserably.
Is it the contrived nature of her sickly sweet voice? The cutesy delivery? The god-awful peppiness of that damn bassoon? I don't know. I just know that it's almost painful to listen to. It actually makes me cringe.
My musical boundries are a anything but narrow. Though I do draw the line at smooth jazz. And anything else that seems insincere. Like Vienna Teng.

Vienna Teng - In Another Life (Jul 10, 2009 - 19:11) | Oh good lord.
Vienna Teng thinks she was a coal miner from WV in a former life. What freaking joke.
I guess this example is just as contrived as her music, so I suppose it "fits."

It's about WWII. Great war imagery.

The Old Ceremony - Walk On Thin Air (Jun 06, 2009 - 15:10) | I really like these guys the more I hear. The entire time we lived in Chapel Hill/ Durham, I wanted to go see them, but just never did.

Medeski, Martin & Wood - Mami Gato (Jun 03, 2009 - 23:34) | Saw these guys in Asheville in 1996 or 1997 at the Be Here Now (standing room only, capacity of about 200) with a bunch of tripped-out hippies. Would have been more fun if I'd had what they were having.
Still a good show, though.

Ben Folds Five - Brick (Jan 25, 2009 - 17:04) | Ben Folds always reminded me of that annoying spoiled-rotten whiny kid... you know the one.

Robinella - Down the Mountain (Jan 13, 2009 - 20:58) | Woo-hoo! This song was on my "to be uploaded" list for a while now... never seemed to get around to it. Thanks to whoever uploaded (or to Bill if he found this on his own).
I also think it's sad she ditched the CC string band. Saw them play many good shows together. Times apparently get tough when you tour A LOT with your husband (best friend?) and brother in law, I guess. Anyhow, that whole situation is a shame. She sounds good solo, tho— wish her the best.

Tom Petty - A Face In The Crowd (Aug 05, 2008 - 08:48) | Did Tom Petty get neutered??
OK, that was harsh. I loves me some Petty— even the more mellow slower stuff— doesn't all have to be Change of Heart type stuff all the time...
But this is weak.

Coldplay - Warning Sign (Aug 05, 2008 - 00:05) | One of their best. Their first two albums, and probably this one especially, were just excellent.

Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold (Aug 03, 2008 - 20:07) | I hated this for the longest time... But apparenty persistence has worn me down. It just went from a 1 to a 6.
I guess I hated it so much because I really loved the original so much. But now that I've heard this version 999 more times than the original, I guess it's grown on me.
And she does have a pretty voice.

Eddie Vedder - Rise (Jul 24, 2008 - 23:54) | Wow. An Eddie Vedder song that doesn't make my skin crawl. For that, it gets a 5.
I never read the book or saw the movie... but I heard about this kid and my first thought was: What a freaking dumbass.
Maybe that makes me callous. But dayum... you gotta respect nature. If you go out there like he did with no kind of clue what you're getting into, that just makes you.... stupid.
Sad story and all, he was obviously troubled (or as we say in the south: not right). But he's no hero.
And oh yeah, Alaskans up here pretty much think he was retarded.
|
Coldplay + Buena Vista Social Club - Clocks (Jul 23, 2008 - 20:57) | Dang, I love the cuban-type music... But this is... odd. It's OK in a "wow-look-what-happens-when-I-smush-these-things-together" kind of way, but not something I'd chose to hear over either song on it's own.

It's interesting that he's talking about Johnson County, of which there is one in Tennessee, and Knoxville, which there is one in Tennessee. However, Knoxville is a town in Johnson County, Arkansas. Also, in another song (Johnny Come Lately), Steve Earl also sings of Camden and London. Camden is a town in south Arkansas, and London is a town on I-40, east of Knoxville and west of Russellville... again, in Arkansas. Maybe Arkansas, maybe Tennessee, but being an Arkansasn (From Russellville, and gotten drunk at plenty of parties in both Knoxville, and London), I'd like to think he's singing about us!
Hey that's really neat! I would never have known that it could possibly be Arkansas.
There's a LOUDON off I-40 near Knoxville, but no LONDON. There IS a LONDON, KY, near Corbin off I-75. Just down the way from Manchester
Interesting.
But it will always be TN in my mind And while I don't know of a specific Copperhead Road in Johnson County, TN, there is most definitely a Copperhead Ridge (which I think straddles Johnson and Sullivan Counties). I'd not be surprised if MANY of the roads in Johnson County are not represented on Google Maps And then there's always artistic license.
Wikipedia says its TN

That's right, I was with him. Right when Steve was singing about the "Johnson County Sheriff." It was spooky.
About 5 minutes later we almost ran over a herd (flock?) of chickens on Hwy 321. That is also a true story.

Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow (Feb 16, 2006 - 17:09) | SandwichBoy wrote: Okay, straight from TMBG into this...god damn I love RP. ^_^
I love that segue too
5:05 pm - Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow
5:03 pm - They Might Be Giants - Istanbul Not Constantinople
And it IS Dan Tyminski, and I wish it said that instead of "Soggy Bottom Boys" but whatever.
|
Dave Matthews Band - Ants Marching (Feb 15, 2006 - 13:44) | I didn't care for the way they 'progressed' since then but this is still a good album, as was Under the Table and Crash... They kinda lost me after that.
I like it, glad to hear it occasionally. Always reminds me of humid summer nights for some reason. Pass me a margarita.
|
Drive-By Truckers - Sink Hole (Feb 13, 2006 - 13:45) | Faithful_Fool wrote: digg'in this tune!
Sounds a tad like Bryan Adams, but with some GRIT.
I'm assuming (hoping?) you mean Ryan and not Bryan...
Ryan Adams is the "easy listening" of Americana as a genre. There's lots more like this where it came from. Check out Bloodshot Records for a start.
|
Zwan - Riverview (Feb 07, 2006 - 07:57) | I never thought that Billy Corgan sounded like Mic Jagger... but he does here. Sounds like Jagger on Opium.
|
Béla Fleck - Magic Fingers (Nov 03, 2005 - 08:17) | It's a 10, with a 5 point penlty for the drumitar. Future Man annoys the crappouta me.
|
Robyn Hitchcock - Antwoman (Nov 03, 2005 - 08:10) | TG for RP, or I would never have gotten to hear Robyn Hitchcock. More I hear from him, the more I like. I like the 'antwoman' and 'feelers' image. Weird.

I agree. Doesn't ever sound dated, either. Still sounds great.

Elvis Costello - The Beat (Sep 21, 2005 - 18:56) | Weird... finally an Elvis Costello song that I actually like. Never thought that would happen.

Earl.... and who?

Beck - Girl (Sep 09, 2005 - 19:37) | Heard this on the regular radio the other day. I love it. Still creative and fresh, way to go Beck :highfive:

Hey this is cool. When I was a baby, I had a little radio that I slept with instead of a teddy bear. I thought I was a weird kid. Guess no so wierd after all :goodvibes:
|
Fiona Apple - Paper Bag (Jun 30, 2005 - 19:12) | She's really talented, no matter what way you slice it. What a natural. I love the clean production on the voice- i.e. they didn't f*** with the vocals too much.
|
Koop - Glomd (May 02, 2005 - 10:31) | Okay, but gets overplayed here.
|
Los Straitjackets - The Casbah (Apr 28, 2005 - 12:17) | FREAKS! :D/ < ---------- OK it's been bugging me that the disco dancing smiley never works in the song comment pages.

|
Old 97s - Won't Be Home (Apr 25, 2005 - 17:31) | I'm just sad I didn't get formally introduced to them until recently. I love it!
If they have a bad album, I haven't heard it. (thx Z ;) )

Chris Smither - Link of Chain (Apr 08, 2005 - 20:45) | He's been through here a few times, and I've missed him...darn. Will make a point to go see him in October when he comes back to my town. :nodhead:
|
Steve Miller Band - Dance, Dance, Dance (Mar 03, 2005 - 15:04) | Okay, I love SMB... But this is my least favorite song of theirs by far. Play their rock-n-roll, if you like... but if you want bluegrassy, there are so many better choices out there than this.
|
Val Davis - The Blacksmith's Fire (Feb 28, 2005 - 19:10) | Ya know I was sitting here working at the 'puter, digging this, thinking it was almost familiar.... I don't come in here when I'm working on something unless I either really like it or really hate it...Then when I came in to rate it, I saw it was VAl ;) Long time, no hear. I really like this.
|
Wax Poetic - Angels (with Norah Jones) (Feb 26, 2005 - 21:20) | tomnam wrote: Does this just sound like it or are they sampling Herbie Hancock's "Watermelon Man"? :-k
I thought so too. That's a guy playing a bottle, in Watermelon Man. Somebody said this was a guy playing a pan flute. I dunno. Sounds similar.

Nickel Creek - Reasons Why (Feb 25, 2005 - 18:57) | Marr wrote:
That's true. Except there are talented folks working in Hollywood who still manage to produce some great movies. That can't really be said about Nashville. Too many like Raitt, Williams, Nelson etc... just driven away by the rampant corruption of the Nashville system.
Nah, there are TONS of talented folks working in Nashville... but unfortunately they're working the clubs and/or writing for the country-music-death-machine, and holding down a day-job to live on ...i.e. they rarely get promoted/signed/heard on a national level. And if a smaller label does sign them, they won't be played on mainstream radio. So, what I'm saying is...you're absolutely right

Time to buy myself a gift!
I love his voice...It's unique. I like a voice with a little texture in it.
I agree with the rest, though. :highfive:
|
Oh Susanna - Alabaster (Jan 29, 2005 - 04:45) | Well! What a nice surprise...I saw this chick play about a year ago, and really enjoyed the show. I didn't go out specifically to see her, she just happened to be the one on stage when I got there...I had never heard of her...and WOW! She was great. I kinda forgot all about her, though...Glad I heard this here...I was too poor that night to buy a CD.
I remember that in person she has a really really BIG voice. I mean almost Neko Case big. You know, just a BIG FULL voice. Good Show.

Just thought to look under MUSIC, Son Volt!
I think he sounds a bit like Jay Farrar, or vice versa. More so on other songs than this one....but it's there, a little bit, in my ear.
|
Boy With a Fish - Out Into the Empty (Jan 25, 2005 - 14:18) | Wow. I just uploaded this yesterday...and it gets played today...cool :)
These guys are pretty neat. If anyone remembers the Horseflies (1980's-ish-trance-folk-oldtime-electrified-stringband types), from Ithaca, this is mostly the same folks, in a new band.
|
Trailer Bride - Porch Song (Jan 21, 2005 - 12:39) | OMG, this was added a loooong time ago!
A great song, languishing in the dusty depths of the RP library...
Wait! I see something written in the dust...it says...yes, it says...

|
Vusi Mahlasela - When You Come Back (Dec 21, 2004 - 06:34) | OK song, appreciate having it in the playlist
....had to just now log in and give it a 3, though...
I just hear it way too much here. Use this one in moderation, please. Reminds me of the corporate music tapes they send to Pier 1 stores...I'm pretty sure this one is on there. Like two or three times a year would be OK! Regular rotation? Not OK!
|
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Two Step (alternate version) (Nov 17, 2004 - 18:52) | This is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics are so nice. I like the studio version better for the rhythmic qualities, and I love the strings on the Crash version.
...but I like this live version too, never heard it before.
I think those that hate Dave won't be able to get past the voice on this version, though. It's a little annoying here. And I like Dave.
Play the Crash version instead. Very powerful bit of music, that one.
|
Wax Poetic - Angels (with Norah Jones) (Nov 17, 2004 - 16:22) | That "hooting" noise sounds a lot like that guy that plays the bottle in Herbie Hancock's Watermelon Man...
Is that what that is? Or is it digitized?
|
Air - Biological (Oct 19, 2004 - 15:00) | Now this is bizzare, and good. I like the lyrics and the music. All around very interesting.
Thanks for posting the lyrics, Richard.
|
Peter Mayer - Bountiful (Oct 11, 2004 - 17:49) | Almost sounds like they are singing "poo-nanni, poo-nanni- nah!" 8O
But other than that, I like it :)
|
Jethro Tull - Velvet Green (Sep 28, 2004 - 06:25) | This makes me want to dress up in medival clothing and prance through the forest with my pony. ...haven't done that in a while....

Good luck getting anything resembling bluegrass played. I'd love to hear that too, though. :nodhead:
|
Gillian Welch - Tear My Stillhouse Down (Sep 23, 2004 - 09:15) | Just saw Gillian and David at a festival. They did a cover of Radiohead's Black Star that was unbelievable. If anyone has a recording of her doing this song (don't know if it's on her newer albums or not) PLEASE upload it!
|
Jack White - Wayfaring Stranger (Sep 21, 2004 - 14:39) | You know, I thought the film missed the boat on putting him in the movie. They missed the chance to showcase a true talent that has been doing this music because it is part of their lives, not because it's cool at the time and landed them a movie role. They could have found a genuine contemporary mountain musician to do the part Jack White played in the movie. I'm sure if they had trouble finding one, they could've called up Hazel Dickens or Doc Watson to give them some leads.
Jack White, *sheesh*

Modest Mouse - Float On (Aug 16, 2004 - 08:06) | When I first heard this on the radio I thought it was Frank Black...anyone else hear that, or am I crazy?
I like it :nodhead:

|
Goran Bregovic - Wedding Cocek (Jul 30, 2004 - 13:33) | Oh good! I like hearing stuff I like on the LRC make it to the main channel
This one was love-hate at first, but I liked it more every time I heard it....BTW, does anyone know if this is a traditional tune? Alannur?
|
Gomez - These 3 Sins (Jul 28, 2004 - 13:06) | Doggone, Gomez has been getting a lot of airplay here...Fortunately for me, I like most of their stuff so far. :)
|
Paul Simon - Homeless (Jul 28, 2004 - 12:19) | Any one seen a made for Showtime movie (really old now) called The Power of One? Is this the same African chior that did the soundtrack? BTW, a really good soundtrack....sounds like the same choir.
|
Deadsy - Mansion World (Jul 28, 2004 - 10:57) | When this first started I thought it was Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More"....Boy, I was WAY off...I think it was the drum machine
|
Afternights - MacDonald's March (Jul 24, 2004 - 15:09) | Nice. You can really hear that traditional Scotish/Irish music was the forerunner of Appalachain folk music, and eventually Bluegrass. I love it.
|
Jonah - Tremor #7 (Jul 12, 2004 - 11:02) | This new song has been playing for all of 60 seconds...and people are rating it already? Wierd. I like to hear something at least once all the way through before I rate.
|
Ryan Adams - This House Is Not For Sale (Jul 06, 2004 - 17:51) | I really want to like Ryan Adams. I mean, I've tried ... I just never end up liking him as much as I think I do. At some point, this relationship is just going to have to end.
Does that make sense?

|
Lyle Lovett - Bears (Jun 19, 2004 - 11:10) | I worked at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM in 2000. We were stationed in a backcountry camp (Clark's Fork) and this song was in an old ratty songbook we found in the cabin. Just the words and the chords. We had to put on a musical variety show for the campers every night (different groups came through every day) and this song was our "finale..." No one had ever heard it before, but we thought the words were hillarious. Turned out to be the perfect song to torment the campers with. And our version, surprisingly, sounded a lot like this, although a lot more rowdy.
This makes about as much sense as riding a pony on a boat.

Kronos Quartet - Marquee Moon (Jun 18, 2004 - 16:43) | Hey I think this came recently from the LRC, I remember hearing it over there and loving it...outstanding!

Not so much in this song on the production part, cuz it's live. But, yeah. They have a little U2 sound in there somewhere.

Van Morrison - Wild Night (May 20, 2004 - 18:45) | Anything Van Morrisson always lands me (in my mind) in a car with the windows rolled down, driving on a country road just after sunset on a hot, muggy summer evening...just as the coolness starts to creep into the air and it smells like deep green grass and the cool damp spaces in the woods...

Not a big fan of the Progressive rock era. But this doesn't suck as bad as Steely Dan. It gets a 3. Maybe would have gotten even a 5 or 6 or if they had decided not to sing.
|
Meyer, Douglas & Barenberg - From Ankara to Izmir (Mar 03, 2004 - 07:48) | Freakin' unbelievable
One of the best shows I've seen was Edgar Meyer, Mike Marshall, and Bela Fleck. Would have been even better with Jerry Douglas.
These guys are just amazing
|
Bob Marley - Exodus (Mar 01, 2004 - 12:08) | The end of this song cracks me up...there is a guy in the background (Mo-ve-ment of Jah Peop-le) that sounds just like cookie monster
|
Norah Jones - Creepin' In (Feb 27, 2004 - 07:37) | Wow, nice! She can do some really diverse stuff....was that dolly singing with her or am I insane?

Death Cab For Cutie - Transatlanticism (Feb 23, 2004 - 18:31) | I seriously like this song. I think I am going to get this CD. Can't recall their other songs, though I know there are some on the playlist....Will definately be keeping my ears open for more of this band.

U2 - Red Hill Mining Town (Feb 03, 2004 - 16:38) | must agree with others here...joshua tree is my favorite, but really they're all good :goodvibes:
|
Cowboy Junkies - Powderfinger (Feb 02, 2004 - 04:44) | Lacks the urgency that gives the original such power. The lyrics get lost in her existential delivery. She might as well be singing the menu at burger king. What a shame :-(
|
Tim O'Brien & Darrell Scott - Walk Beside Me (Jan 27, 2004 - 08:37) | Allright!! I uploaded some live Tim and Darrell, but they didn't get accepted. These two put on a freaking amazing show together, and solo...definately worth seeing if either one comes to a venue near you
|
Alanis Morissette - King Of Pain (Jan 19, 2004 - 09:21) | this song has a skip in it. might want to check that.
i like it pretty well. nice cover of a great song. she makes it her own.
|
Coldplay - Moses (Jan 17, 2004 - 19:24) | i hope this band continues to put out great material for many more years to come. Side note: sometimes, the guitar riffs remind me of U2...especially this song. actually, it's more than just the guitar on this song, i think...can't put my finger on in, but sounds like U2 a little
|
Mumbo Gumbo - Love Makes Me Stupid (Jan 17, 2004 - 18:56) | DownHomeGirl wrote:
we must be on the same drugs
well. it seems to be fixed now. now that i can hear the right song...i like it a bunch
shake me if i'm dreamin'
(something..)run screamin'
love makes me stupid
that's awesome
|
Mumbo Gumbo - Love Makes Me Stupid (Jan 17, 2004 - 18:50) | jschmeau wrote: Why am I hearing jet, yet the playlist says MUmbo Jumbo is up next????
Am I on drugs?
we must be on the same drugs
|
The Beatles - Dear Prudence (Jan 13, 2004 - 16:19) | someone told me that prudence was a sheepdog that belonged to paul. don't know if that's true or not, but i like the idea of frolicking around on a sunny hilltop with a smiling sheepdog...
|
Jude Cole - Speed of Life (Dec 17, 2003 - 12:05) | justlistening wrote:
Actually, every once in awhile I think I hear a bit of Sting :???:
yeah, i hear sting too...nice song, i like it!
|
Stone Temple Pilots - Interstate Love Song (Dec 17, 2003 - 11:58) | anything off this album is fine with me. i still like me some stp from time to time, though their newer stuff just kills me. a little too gooey and all around "blah." mr. weiland (sp?) was more entertaining when he was on drugs. sad, but true.
|
Big Head Todd & The Monsters - Tangerine (Dec 11, 2003 - 14:24) | nice, i have liked most everything i have heard of these guys one of those bands who have been around a long time, but unfortunately never quite get much attention
|
Richard Shindell - Confession (Dec 10, 2003 - 11:59) | this guy sounds so much like richard buckner, i keep thinking it is him. maybe i'll upload some buckner... :-k
i like this song a lot :nodhead:
|
Beat Farmers - Powderfinger (Dec 10, 2003 - 09:01) | i love this song, so i gave it a six...i would love to hear the acoustic syndicate version, though, it really rocks out...
|
Scott Miller & The Commonwealth - Across The Line (Dec 10, 2003 - 08:07) | LaurieBlue wrote:
This CD is great - but the new Upside Downside is OUTSTANDING. Scott Miller is fantastic - don't ever miss a live show. We love him..
we saw him here last friday and it was,as always, an amazing show! and he is the nicest person you will ever meet, so humble and sweet.
|
Billy Bragg & Wilco - California Stars (Nov 23, 2003 - 15:33) | robinesque wrote: They say that in theory, a bumblebee shouldn't be able to fly. And they say that if you add up the parts of Sophia Lauren's face, she shouldn't be beautiful. And to me, if you add up the parts of this song, it shouldn't be great. But it is great, and I wish I knew why. I have worn out this mp3, and if I could attend my funeral, I would have this song played.
don't you, by definition, have to attend your own funeral?
|
Joe Jackson - Steppin' Out (Nov 22, 2003 - 23:29) | this needs to go in the "guilty musical pleasures" forum...
i simultaneaously love it and hate it
|
Bob Dylan - Visions of Johanna (Nov 22, 2003 - 22:26) | geez, i have to be in the right mood for dylan...sometimes i just think he's great, then other times the same song i loved will irritate me to no end...right now i'm liking this, but ask me tomorrow and i will probably hate it
|
Rufus Wainwright - Hallelujah (Nov 22, 2003 - 21:44) | i think i like this better than buckley's version, though that's pretty darn good, too....what beautiful lyrics...cohen is a damn genious
|
Fade To Bluegrass - Unforgiven (Nov 21, 2003 - 13:14) | wow. 8O i would never have thought this would work. but it does, somehow... i give it a "quite likeable"
...now follow up with the seldom scene to make it perfect
|
Webb Wilder - Meet Your New Landlord (Nov 20, 2003 - 09:06) | zevon wrote: Sonny Landreth rocks.
This sucks.
A terrible cover of a great song.
webb is so far from "sucks"
rock on, webb...last of the full grown men
|
Hem - Half Acre (Nov 18, 2003 - 19:53) | i really enjoy this...i have put this cd on my wish list--thanks for introducing it to me!
|
Richard Thompson - 1952 Vincent Black Lightning (Nov 11, 2003 - 12:14) | tuningin wrote: Do you have the Del McCury version of this?
i love del's version! (richard is awesome for writting it, though!)
i've got a live version of del & band doing this song, but i don't believe the bitrate is high enough to upload... :( ....maybe someone else will uplaod it?
|
Malcolm Holcombe - To The Homeland (Oct 22, 2003 - 11:57) | thank you for playing this! you have to see malcolm live. he is amazing!
i read some article about him somewhere...the author called him a "genuine crazy person." you just have to meet him or go to a show to understand. he is truly an amazing preformer and a gifted songwriter.
|
Cake - I Will Survive (Oct 17, 2003 - 16:56) | i have never heard a cake song i didn't like at least a little bit. except this. this is so bad it makes my brain hurt.
|
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold (Oct 08, 2003 - 18:04) | this is (used to be, anyways )one of my favorite songs...she is butchering it!
she is trying to be creative with the phrasing, and IMO, is not having much success...she is trying way too hard. Not convincing. :puke:
she does have a beautiful voice, but her timing just kills it.
|
Oliver Mtukudzi - Wake Up (Oct 07, 2003 - 18:36) | neat song...
but i swear it sounds like the girls are singing "i'm a whiny-butt..."
|
Johnny Cash - Ring of Fire (Oct 06, 2003 - 08:32) | UUMike wrote: YES! This is the Cash we should remember.... not that "Johnny sings U2" stuff.
oh i so agree...i love JC and i love U2, but they need to stay away from each other
RIP johnny

she did a nice job
|
The Vapors - Turning Japanese (Sep 25, 2003 - 14:29) | how can you not love this song?
i khow the part about taking picures of your insides is kind just a little bit creepy...but again, how can you just not love it!
|
Iggy Pop - Lust for Life (Sep 25, 2003 - 12:30) | yes, all i can think about is the car comercial...
great catchy song, though. no mystery why they used it!
|
Calexico - Quattro (World drifts in) (Sep 25, 2003 - 11:52) | i really like this song, but it seems like its been played here an awful lot...oh well, it could be worse...could be hearing brittney 10 times a day...
never heard of this band but i definatly like it. i like the acoustic guitar with all the horns and the electric guitar just plucking out the right notes in the background, very nice!
|

|
Joe Craven - Soldiers Joy (Sep 23, 2003 - 18:00) | what a cool-wierd island touch to what was originally an old-time fiddle number... me likes! you should follow this with guy clark's version...that would be neat...
|
Neko Case - Lady Pilot (Sep 23, 2003 - 15:07) | i found neko case quite by accident, and i just love her & her boyfriends...
been a neko fan ever since i found some of her stuff on napster way back in the day when all that stuff was still legal...
PLAY MORE NEKO!
|
Soggy Bottom Boys - I Am A Man Of Constant Sorrow (Sep 23, 2003 - 14:19) | mellotron wrote: u need a seperate radio station for this ...um... stuff. How about 'radio nashville' or 'radio kentucky'.
I like a variety, but draw the line at country and rap. Oh, and if u say "its not country its bluegrass", how about "who cares its just awful".
good music is good music. period. i like to look beyond so called "genre" and like it or dislike it based on what i hear, not on what other people have dfined it as...
besides, you should go to a really good bluegrass show sometime, del mccourry band or allison kraus or blue highway...
you might realize that great music comes in many different colors...
if you only want to hear one particular genre to the exclusion of others, then why the heck are you listening to rp at all?
|
U2 - Lemon (Sep 23, 2003 - 05:17) | Lots of people,even a lot of hardcore u2 fans, really don't like zooropa, but it's one of my favorites...
|
Teitur - Amanda's Dream (Sep 21, 2003 - 22:41) | surprised this song rated so poorly so far, i really like it
very nice
|
Gillian Welch - Caleb Meyer (Sep 21, 2003 - 19:52) | i was lucky enough to get to see gillian and david rawlings in a VERY small room several years ago, only about 90 people there...it was incredible...they had the undivided attention of EVERYONE in the room...you could hear them BREATHING...
a very intese experience...
I so love gillian, and david's guitar is just stunning
MORE PLEASE!
|
Gillian Welch - Tear My Stillhouse Down (Sep 21, 2003 - 19:47) | Railee^!^ wrote: Damn, that's almost country music Bill,.....BRAVO!
When the rest of you kids grow-up you'll enjoy a little George Jones every now and then.
|
Junior Brown - Surf Medley (Sep 18, 2003 - 11:35) | no doubt about it, junior brown is a bad-ass musician...
but if you ever have the opportunity to meet him, be warned...he can be a real asshole!! trust me!!
|
Phish - If I Could (w/ Alison Krauss) (Sep 09, 2003 - 17:31) | this is the first phish album i had heard. i immediately went out and got all others i could find...i still enjoy some good phish now and again. did go through a little phishy stage there for a while...funny to remember...

|
Moby - Porcelain (Sep 08, 2003 - 19:11) | sounds like it might be good for "on hold" music because it is quite calming...but i've got a sound machine that plays "crickets" and "bubbling brook," and i think i'd rather listen to that
