Morcheeba - Blood Like Lemonade (Dec 18, 2012 - 07:43) | This takes a while to get going. The vocals and melody are rough in the beginning. Then, flows like bloody lemonade.
|
Bruce Cockburn - Night Train (Dec 18, 2012 - 07:41) | Normally cannot tolerate his voice, but the songwriting on this album, along with the guitar and the bass are astounding. Almost all the songs on this album, if you listen and follow the craft of his mind, paint fully realized scenarios. This one and his instrumental album, aptly named Speechless, are my favs.
|
Concrete Blonde - Everybody Knows (Dec 18, 2012 - 07:12) | Oh C'mon. Almost any other song by CB is better than this. Really Bill, read the comments and change things up a bit with this stellar and underrepresented band. Give Bloodletting a spin!
|
Johnny Rivers - Secret Agent Man (Nov 08, 2012 - 11:49) | mfcrowe wrote: Swingin' on the Riviera, one day and then layin' in the Bombay alley next day. Oh no, you let the wrong words slip while kissing persuasive lips.
How cool of a song was this?
This song was to me the epitome of coolness for most of my young adulthood. Then, my dad took me to my first Bond movie and the die was cast. This song still brings back fond memories.
|
Strawbs - Witchwood (Oct 04, 2012 - 09:22) | Dave Cousins just sent shivers through my memory bank and brought back my amorous teenage years!
|
Poe - Wild (Oct 03, 2012 - 15:00) | Oh Poe, where did you go? (moan)
BTW - the RP link to her website goes to Edgar Allan Poe. This is the real link:

Simon & Garfunkel - Save the Life of My Child (Mar 12, 2012 - 14:01) | On_The_Beach wrote: This has never been one of my fave S&G tunes, either. I think it's something to do with the droning synth and wailing background vocals.
If I may...
When I was given this record at the age of 8, it was profound in its diversion from the pop of the time. The whole album was a portrait in words. Poetry of nuance. This song stands out mostly for its layering of vocals and efx, along with its social & period implications. Its place in the album order made sense. I played it over and over just to get that spooky vibe when the female choir chimes in. Sounded heavenly and ominous simultaneously.
Nowadays, we've all heard the sound of a record needle falling and the scratches that follow. For me, this was the record where I first heard that sound, along with the interminable wait for the song to start. It's forever imprinted on me.
|
Nik Kershaw - Wounded (Mar 02, 2012 - 08:58) | RP never ceases to amaze me. Nik Kershaw? Here? You mean I'm not the only one in the universe who's heard of him? WOW! I prefer his older stuff - that may be too much of a stretch for playing here. But, "Wouldn't It Be Good?"
|
Mocean Worker - Shooby Shooby Do Yah! (Mar 01, 2012 - 10:10) | Sounds like something that would play at a college radio station while they recite their concert calendar.
"Tonight at O'Doul's catch the James Hancock band with special guest, Motherball..."
|
Hem - Leave Me Here (Feb 29, 2012 - 12:34) | I strongly recommend their "Identical Snowflakes" single from itunes: Here
|
Patty Griffin - Rain (Feb 08, 2012 - 14:46) | sirdroseph wrote: Patty Griffin is alright, but I really do not like this song, sounds like Taylor Swift or Faith Hill or some other pop-country tart. If you follow her career, this resembles the Flaming Red sound a bit more. Definitely a unique voice. How can you compare with those women with the trepidation in her tremolo? Her soul is going along for the ride on this one. Breathless emotion and finale.
|
The Wailin' Jennys - Swing Low Sail High (Feb 08, 2012 - 10:36) | "Oh, setting sun don’t weep for all the things you lose Morning comes as sure as it must die Dying is such mystery Yet I wonder will it be? When I’ve looked the whole thing in the eye"
Howse the rest of the album comparatively?
|
Björk - Jóga (Feb 02, 2012 - 12:57) | Cynaera wrote: Bjork is just one of those "in-your-face" people. One either loves her or hates her. Her music either resonates or it repels.
I actually fall smack in the middle. I dislike most, but simply adore this one. Play it loud...
|
MGMT - Kids (Feb 02, 2012 - 12:34) | I was going to serious pan this from the zam pop opening. I thought this was LMFAO at first. Nope, MGMT. Now I know. The chorus has legs and it . is . toe . tapping . Hard enough to admit.
|
All India Radio - Fall (Feb 02, 2012 - 11:51) | InSaNeLy good segue from Porcupine Tree ~ sublime. The cat comments have me chuckling.
Has a bit of a Grey Eye Glances / October Project / Mandalay meld to it. Could be the love song for the last Underworld movie (not that I saw it). Just sounds like it would fit.

A Fine Frenzy - Come On, Come Out (Jan 13, 2012 - 06:57) | brett_k wrote: Yeah i agree, this whole album is very nice. But, it seems to play better mixed in with other similar sounding artists. It can be a bit homogenous in one straight listen.

Adele - Someone Like You (Nov 22, 2011 - 09:09) | Okay, it's been played to death on radio. Go here for a fresh and revised ( and I say, better ) version:

|
1 Giant Leap - The Way You Dream (Oct 17, 2011 - 18:47) | Music is, to me, proof of the existence of God. It is so extraordinarily full of magic, and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference. — Kurt Vonnegut
|
Frou Frou - Must Be Dreaming (Oct 01, 2011 - 08:05) | Amazing, outstanding talent, both in the studio & live. Wonderful, thought-provoking lyrical & aural landscapes. 10 tracks from this album in rotation here on RP.
|
Talking Heads - (Nothing But) Flowers (Oct 01, 2011 - 07:42) | I can take the repeated playings of Porcupine Tree, but Byrne blows! Please give us a year off. Thx!
my sentiment as well I'm an old fart (well 50-something, but anyone over 30 is old, right?) but I'd rather bang my head repeatedly against a wall than listen to David Byrne - it would be less painful and with luck there'd be the blessed relief of unconsciousness.
|
Poe - Control (Apr 19, 2011 - 05:49) | They claim soon for a new set of tunes. Soon.
|
Nina Simone - Feeling Good (Feb 04, 2011 - 08:52) | Gosh, I thought this was a man singing. Clearly not Micheal Buble!
Glad to see I can still learn something about music from before today...
|
Tracy Bonham - Something Beautiful (Aug 13, 2010 - 21:24) | So, it's 11:52 here in the NY suburbs, and I've been sitting in my backyard with my iPhone headphones playing RP for over 40 minutes. I'm wondering if I should've instead gone to the Tracy Bonham show down in Manhattan this evening rather than opting to park myself in a chair, with mosquitoes circling, to search the heavens for the just past-peak Perseid meteor show. She's probably on stage right now & I have a sheet wrapped around me to stave off the feeding frenzy. It's getting cooler and damp.
Where are the shooting stars? Am I too late? Are they over? Not one? I hate second guessing my decisions. I crane my neck skyward. My arm is going numb from the awkward position needed to keep the sheet from unravelling. I am losing faith in the moment.
Suddenly, a streak of cosmic dust blasts across the sky in a long, but fading blaze of light - just as "Something Beautiful" begins playing.
I smile slowly.
Her lyrics say,
"But I wait I’m sinking in my skin And I wait My heart is wearing thin ‘Cause I’m looking for Something beautiful"
Saw one. Something beautiful. I'm done. Time for bed. Thanks Tracy. Maybe next time.
Thanks RP.
Thank God. SLAP!!

Norah Jones - Even Though (Jul 27, 2010 - 06:50) | yodasan_magoo wrote: Norah's songs are somewhat syrupy, but what a georgous voice. I agree. I thought this was an obscure slow song from the Cardigans. I had given up on Norah, but glad this got my attention.
|
Single Gun Theory - From a Million Miles (Jul 16, 2010 - 07:01) | Once again, RP surprises me with an artist I hold in deep regard - not only for their eclectic nature but for their obscurity. Bravo, as always!
|
Coldplay - Speed Of Sound (May 18, 2010 - 09:06) | There's a thrust that comes in advance of a hang glider lifting off from a takeoff perch. You feel the gust get stronger and then it's powerful enough. You trust the power and GO.
This song and, for the most part, this band do that for me.
Whoooooooosh.......
|
Coldplay - Talk (May 12, 2010 - 19:08) | Wag more, bark less.
Kiss Kiss Hug Hug.
No talk. SShhhhh.

The Frames - The Cost (Mar 30, 2010 - 21:07) | ecyfoto wrote: You can hear Talk Talk as a possible influence. Well, at least I can. Great stuff. Yes, something disrupting and caressing simultaneously.
|
Loreena McKennitt - Kecharitomene (Dec 12, 2009 - 18:26) | Many nego comments. However, the ratings are high. I suppose those that dislike are furiously typing whilst those who approve are passively enjoying.
|
Jethro Tull - With You There to Help Me (Dec 11, 2009 - 19:45) | keller1 wrote: I agree. There was a run of four classic albums —- Stand Up, this one, Aqualung, and Thick as a Brick. The next one, Passion Play, was gawdawful —- still no idea what happened there —- and from then on the albums had inspired moments but were inconsistent. Awww. Passion Play was special, too. Even War Child. But this still outrocks them all.
|
Strawbs - Lay Down (Dec 01, 2009 - 19:56) | I fondly remember "Down By The Sea" as a strong and evocative track. Mid-70's prog rock in a secret suburban basement love nest. "Lay Down" might've been a more aptly named track, though.
|
The Pretenders - The Wait (Nov 30, 2009 - 12:26) | I lived & loved Mystery Achievement for so long, I forgot about side one. Dang!
|
Del Amitri - Driving With The Brakes On (Nov 30, 2009 - 11:32) | Justin Currie's voice just does wonders for me. This album is fair...the earlier ones are superb. Every track. But then, I was younger, too. Age bias.
|
Doves - Compulsion (Nov 14, 2009 - 14:56) | Gryn wrote: Not sure how this was overlooked.. But it sounds like a copy of Blondie's "Rapture"
Listen to it. Just logged on to make the same comment - doh!
Oddly enough, I sprained my "sacroiliac" last month ( it still hurts) and I knew that some old song had that word in the lyrics but I couldn't remember it. Hearing this track by the Doves made me think of that Blondie tune and, voila, these lyrics;
"Back to back Sacroiliac Spineless movement And a wild attack"
Serendipitous.

Porcupine Tree - Stars Die (Aug 07, 2009 - 18:30) | gonzafr wrote: Wow.. amazing set!!
PT - Stars Dies Peter Gabriel - A different Drum Steely Dan - The Royal Scam Coltrane - Naima and so on.. .. And it just continues on.... Porcupine Tree / Patty Griffin / Pretenders Live / The Who / Eddie Harris.
My father listened to classical music & I always respected his divine dedication to craft- without quite getting it. Sets like these from Bill re-instill the awe I feel for the craft & showmanship of music within my time.
This time, however, I get it.

Sonny Landreth - Howlin' Moon (Aug 06, 2009 - 16:32) | I want SO MUCH to be amazed by this song/performer, but I keep having flashbacks to many outdoor, beer-soaked, frisbee-tossing, girls-halter-wearing, mud-in-the-toes, blues concerts sponsored by the local radio station.
"Hey, do you smell that?"
|
The Shins - A Comet Appears (Aug 06, 2009 - 15:21) | "But the lonely are such delicate things, The wind from a wasp could blow them, Into the sea, With stones on their feet, Lost to the light and the loving we need..."
I was feeling a little forlorn and then this. My wife is at work late and the night is so long. Ahhhhhh
A little sadness to finish the day. Bittersweet. I think I need to up my meds.
|
Tosca - Busenfreund (Aug 06, 2009 - 14:03) | Like flying through a sci-fi Bond movie, only different.

Gary Jules - Mad World (Jun 26, 2009 - 11:47) | Man, that was one fast graphic! You must've built this in a heartbeat.

Gary Jules - Mad World (Jun 26, 2009 - 11:46) | Hearing covers songs often reminds me of the feeling one gets when going around a corner too fast, tilting on two wheels. You may just completely lose it and flip over, or you just might pull through and continue on....
|
Mat Kearney - All I Have (Jun 26, 2009 - 11:36) | Haven't quite caught the lyrics the first time around, but what a fresh sound. Nice structure & tone.

Little Feat - Spanish Moon (Jun 22, 2009 - 12:58) | First listen was on a non-stop drive from NY to FL in the late 70's. This tape never left our deck. Absolutely the best live album ever, with Allmans' Live at the Fillmore a close second.
Nowadays, I'm listening to Inara George (Lowell's daughter). Worlds away in style. Check her out in The Bird & The Bee.

|
Gerry Rafferty - Baker Street (Apr 15, 2009 - 11:18) | Strange ..... Feelings.... odd this being here. Can't ..... place.... sentiment. Sax maniac. So out of place with music of the time. See: Al Stewart.

|
Bruce Springsteen - Rosalita (Come Out Tonight) (Mar 11, 2009 - 12:06) | The evocative lyrics, joviality and sheer momentum of this song propelled Bruce straight thru Born To Run. Unfortunately, he crashed landed after that. But momentum is hard to stop, content or not.
|
Bruce Lash - Psycho Killer (Mar 11, 2009 - 09:06) | FWIW, at least its not David Byrne.... but my money's on a Talking Heads song following this.

Tori Amos - A Sorta Fairytale (Dec 18, 2008 - 15:24) | I bought her first album out of sheer impulse. Not bad, but never really sunk in. Now, with this song, she pulls me back in with the same urging. I don't agree about the rest of the album, though IMHO.
This song is stellar and stands on its own.
|
The Cure - Burn (Nov 11, 2008 - 18:23) | Stunning sneak out of Loreena McKennitt...... seamless.
|
Loreena McKennitt - The Gates of Istanbul (Nov 11, 2008 - 18:21) | Had been listening to Sarah McLachlan's first album for a few weeks when I paid a visit to a sage friend of mine. He shared some of his mushroom "tea" with me, and put "The Mask & The Mirror" on my ears with headphones. I danced with the face of God that day. Complete phase shift. Put her in a special place in my music mentors group.
This album does have its similarities. A bit more droning.
|
Serge Gainsbourg - En Melody (Nov 11, 2008 - 18:11) | Strangely enough, I hear Grand Funk Railroad in this. "Sin's A Good Man's Brother". Minus the chick.

I admit, I am very pleasantly surprised both by the musicianship & the wordplay. Go try it. Flows great and well worth it.
|
Autamata - Skimming Stones (Nov 11, 2008 - 15:06) | Okay, since there are plenty of comparisons here, she sounds like the lead to "Over The Rhine", Karin Bergquist, to me.
|
Poe - Hey Pretty (Nov 11, 2008 - 15:00) | Very glad to hear this still in rotation. Such a shame she has been out of adding to it, though.

k.d. lang - Coming Home (May 09, 2008 - 14:24) | Sweet, soft album. Doesn't grab me like "Ingenue". Rather, puts me to sleep. Great lyrics, just a tad dull.
|
The Who - Baba O'Riley (May 09, 2008 - 11:53) | Impeccable album - front to back. (back when there was a front and a back)
Definitely heard a skip in the violin finale.
|
Spoon - I Summon You (May 06, 2008 - 07:38) | Strong resemblance to Rockpile....Nick Lowe & Dave Edmunds.
|
Deodato - Also Sprach Zarathustra (May 01, 2008 - 15:28) | Now, follow up with some Larry Coryell & the Seventh House, a bit of Kraftwerk and wrap it up with Equinoxe from Jean Michel Jarre.

Radiohead - Nude (May 01, 2008 - 15:25) | Tolerable tune, but why is the cat being tortured?
|
Prince - When Doves Cry (Apr 29, 2008 - 07:42) | His playing at the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame a few years back left me speechless. Stunning capabilities. A little too fey sounding most of the time, but WTF.

|
Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds - Two Step (alternate version) (Apr 14, 2008 - 19:11) | Why can't ya all just chill and let the dude have his say? I think these lyrics are brilliant in their direct simplicity of the endless persistence of the human will to get laid. And reproduce (by default!)
Decent song around it, too.

Lucky you. I live nearby and relish the acts that thrive through the Towne Crier. Would have loved to have seen him. Sad.

The Chieftains - Whole Heap Of Little Horses (w/Patty Griffin) (Apr 14, 2008 - 19:02) | This woman & this track remind me of how RP is like a drive with someone else at the wheel. There's little control as to direction, but always something engaging to experience. Just chill, look out the window and be glad for once that you're not driving.

What a great performance. Still captivating in concert. Totally enthralled. Great female flute player.
|
Zero 7 - Home (Jan 13, 2008 - 13:14) |
Having never seen them live, I'm left wondering if the high production value carries over to the stage?
Excellent tune.
I was lucky enough to see them in NY early on in their career (this album both times) and they are dead on live. Crowd just zones and sways.

Paul Simon - One Man's Ceiling is Another Man's Floor (Dec 03, 2007 - 15:24) | I was "house sitting" a 4th floor apartment in NYC in the mid-90's just having broken up from a 10 year relationship that could go no further. I was living out of a packpack and was wallowing in self-pity and doubt. The owner had this huge cache of records & a tape deck, so I set forth creating a mix tape to douse my doldrums. I had never heard this track before. This song ended up in the middle and became the title of the tape.
It still brings back memories of the worst/best year of my life.

There's another track on this album (The Late Show) with these lyrics that did resonate:
Everyone Ive ever known has wished me well
Anyway thats how it seems, its hard to tell
Maybe people only ask you how youre doing
cause thats easier than letting on how little they could care
But when you know that youve got a real friend somewhere
Suddenly all the others are so much easier to bear.....

The Beatles - Hey Bulldog (Nov 04, 2007 - 18:31) | Played this track to DEATH while visiting Germany when I was 12 years old visiting non-English speaking relatives. On their Gramaphone of course!

Anyway, I don't mean to simply diss music I don't care for, just want to put out my honest impression, both thumbs up and down. Thumbs down on this selection.
Taken out of context of the whole album this song does indeed grate if you're not familiar with it. Perhaps there is an assumption that Poe has been experienced sufficiently by all to appreciate this track. If one has heard it in its entirety, then IMHO, you would truly "get" this selection. Brilliant.

But heres an interesting fact...
There are two verses to the piece, however, three were planned. In the studio, Bowie sang a third verse in a Bob Dylan style, however, given Bob Dylan's recent motorcycling accident and the song's subject matter, the band soon considered such a move to be too crass, and Bowie calmly asked for Tony Visconti to delete the verse from the recording.
And this is the only one I'd suggest gets booted from this stellar album. Off-kilter IMO.

I find it makes life far more pleasant.
It also keeps it from appearing that I'm trying to tell everybody else what they should or should not listen to.
Who are you to be the arbiter of posting decorum? Let her complain away. Elvis never evolved after his breakthough LP. What's 143 ratings, anyway? The one's that dislike him don't bother to vote.

If you look carefully, you'll see the lady from It's a Beautiful Day once again, wearing the same dress and bonnet, this time waving goodbye to (presumably) her husband riding on horseback."

I find this one of the finest songs ever written, certainly from an emotional and relationship viewpoint. It's so lyrical and possessive (thus the title). People who are madly in love feel this way, and I'm sure the stalker (who eventually killed himself during a lawsuit with Sarah) felt exactly this way. She puts it in better words, of course.
Man...this is just a great great song.

Sardonic = mocking.

It's mean spirited and done as a means of garnering attention without accountability and spurring reaction. This faceless forum allows those with that propensity to attack and remain blissfully unrepentant.

Jethro Tull - Skating Away (on the Thin Ice of the New Day) (Jun 21, 2006 - 12:42) | I was walking back to my car in Tarrytown NY last summer with a bag of mexican takeout, when I passed the Tarrytown Music Hall. I could barely hear a flute being played coming from within. I paused and recognised this tune. Out of sheer curiousity why anyone would be playing this, I ventured in. The doors were unlocked as it was around 5:30 in the afternoon and no one was around to query my entry.
As I enterred the darkened hall, I noticed a beret wearing man on stage moving a mic stand and tugging on some wires. There was an overstuffed couch behind him and a few oriental rugs on the floor. Thinking I heard a bootleg copy of Tull on the PA, I was about to leave when I noticed the man on stage had a flute in his hands. I paused quietly and watched as he once again played a quick rendition of "Skating Away" and then some bizarre riff to end with. A,"That's good" came over the PA, confirming what I imagined to be the sound man accepting the volume level. I stated quite assuredly,"No, that's timeless." Ian shielded his eyes to see me and replied,"Cheers, mate", or something similar and then followed with,"Did I pass the audition?"
To my dismay, the concert that evening was sold out, but I got a 14 second private mini show to stoke the fires of memory lane. My wife still thinks I dreamt it.

Subdudes - All The Time In The World (Jun 19, 2006 - 10:38) | I was the art director for the NBC Olympics in '96. They were working me to death & I was doing 14 hour shifts, missing time for friends & exercise & home-cooked meals. Taking naps under consoles to stay awake.
One day (July 6th, actually), I walked in and they had replaced all the chairs with crates since the furniture had to be sent ahead to Atlanta to be set up. I asked how long we were expected to sit on crates and they said about a month. And they said no more days off for the remainder of the job. (3 months!) That did it. I quit.
Went out to Central Park in NYC and played Frisbee for hours on a sunny day. Loved it. This song was playing on a boom box nearby. REALLY loved it then.

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Who Do You Love (Feb 09, 2006 - 11:22) | When I was in 9th grade back in the 70's, I was put up to showing how"cool" I was by some upperclassmen. I went in to the local hardware store, that also doubled as our town's music store, and stuffed 5 albums up under my sweater. Didn't even look who they were. They ended up being:
Bloodrock
Steeleye Span - Below the Salt
Gentle Giant
Amazing Blondel
& Quicksilver Messenger Service - Happy Trails
All (minus the Bloodrock) proved to influence me in immeasurable ways, including veering away from top 40 pop, especially the latter. I think it didn't leave my turntable for weeks - stunning CalRock from that era. I just bought the CD last month.
FYI: As for the upperclassmen, 2 ended up spending 2 years in prison for theft and one died in a cocaine rubout in Florida. I got the cool tunes, one of the guys girlfriends, and turned my back on crime.

Count Basie - Jumpin' at the Woodside (Jan 13, 2006 - 09:27) | I was introduced to this style of music purely by accident. Back in the 70's I went to see John Lee Hooker at (of all places) a Beefsteak Charlie's Restaurant. The opening act was a band called Asleep at the Wheel who, (with their 13 piece band), simply tore up the place with this tune. I was sure it was their composition by simple naivete and by their mastery of it. I followed them loyally for years, tracking all their songs back to their sources and discovered innumerable artists that had come before and deserved serious listening in their own right. A marvelous time of musical enlightenment.

This is the absolute truth.....the 2nd, 3rd & 4th abums by him are outstanding ( in the truest sense of the word ). Give the rest of this album a chance and you'll see his uniqueness.

Echo - Can't Walk Away (Nov 30, 2005 - 14:44) | RabbitEars wrote: I've seen this band in little clubs in NYC - it's Joy Askew and a guy who's name I can't remember (he's Asian). I'm not sure who Gerson is. The guy does all the samply stuff and plays the horn. Joy Askew sings & plays keyboards. They do some interesting covers of standards too (like "Under My Skin"). She has some great solo stuff, worth checking out. She did BGvox for part of Gabriel's '92 tour.

Echo - Can't Walk Away (Nov 30, 2005 - 14:42) | The info above is wrong - slightly. First, the cover art is wrong. Not Ruth Gerson at all.
This song is by Joy Askew whilst she was a duo called ECHO.

I guess some folks just don't care for her, but I think she is consistently terrific.
True...true....but why haven't her following albums had the same solid tunes as this one did (aside from a couple of tracks off of Mil Besos)? This album stands out as superb - and a real rocker in some cases - minus the first track IMHO.

Marc Broussard - Home (Nov 07, 2005 - 11:52) | The picture took a while to load and dang if I didn't 'spect to see an older and more weathered Black gentleman. Another blow to my knee jerk stereotyping. Not that I'm the least prejudiced (as I am black/white myself), but I can always use a good swift reminder not to pass any assumptions.
BTW....This smokes in the vein of Anders Osborne & Storyville.
Shout it Out!!

John Lennon - Working Class Hero (Jun 27, 2005 - 14:23) | The only uninspiring part of the RP novelty of playlists, is that they must be repeating themselves. So many of the posters here make comments about previous songs sequences that were played today and the dates reveal they were played in the same order several times before and before that. You mean Bill isn't spinning these 24/ 7 / 365 all by himself strapped to a chair?

Took your advice....More ambient, bass & drums driven. A few more spacey effects, but the songs never go anywhere. No real melody, just driving rhythm. Good for 2am chill downs.
Zero 7 still does it for me. Thanks, though. No slam.

Kate Price - The Isle of Dreaming (Mar 24, 2005 - 12:48) | Love her earlier album...in the genre of Loreena McKennitt, but unique enough and a bit less adventurous, focusing more on the instrument technique. Very definitive vocal stamp. (SEE LISTING ABOVE on Jun 20, 2005)

Strange that it seems it has taken a few years for this band to catch on in the U.S.
This music made me search out other current electronic music. Unfortunately I'm having a difficult time finding anything approaching the quality of Zero 7. Any ideas?
Within a margin of error, try these groups:
Thievery Corporation - Morcheeba - Koop - Dzihan & Kamien - Nicola Conte - early Goldfrapp - some Emiliana Torrini - Dusty Trails - some St Germain - some Soulstice - some Buddha Bar - some Hotel Costas - some Thunderball
I, too, have been on a quest to gather similar sounds. Venture forth!!!

I bought this album on the strength of "Half Acre" & this song. These two are surely the cream of the album. But, the trinkly "George Winston" piano coupled with sweet vocals only coddles on these 2 songs. The rest of the album doesn't have legs, unfortunately IMHO. Sold it on Ebay.

Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized (Dec 02, 2004 - 09:24) | jadewahoo wrote:
Myth is the reality of the Soul, just as history is the reality of the day-to-day world. Music, as well as poetry, dance, art, theatre and ceremony... the very expressions of a soulful and spiritual life... are a celebration of the intangible, numinous and ineffable realms of our nature.
You have, Art_Carnage, in one fell statement, dismissed the very essence of what makes life rich, rewarding and authentic.
'Nuff said?
dmax wrote:God, I love this song. What a beautiful mood.
You know it's a meaningless question to ask if those stories are right, caus what matters most is the feeling you get when you're hypnotized....

Toni Price - Comes Love (Nov 08, 2004 - 10:18) | Once again I am reminded how a song can transport one to their "Happy Place". Just got word of additional cutbacks here at work and was stewing in "What now?" paranoia. From the first notes, I was transported tp the motorcycle trip I was on passing thru Austin where I was turned on to Toni. It may not change the present condition, but good music can always soften the edges. Toni has the power and the staying power. Play on...

Single Gun Theory - From a Million Miles (Oct 18, 2004 - 12:22) | Goodness Gracious!! My head snapped to the computer upon the first notes....
RP is gleaning more & more from the audio netherworlds of forgotten gems and providing an aural SNAP to times past with tunes recovered and re-presented.
Verbose, I know, but heartfelt. MORE, yet still, more, please.

Merrie Amsterburg - Walking On The Moon (Aug 21, 2004 - 14:21) | I HAVE this album and didn't even know this song was on it...Must've overlooked for a reason, 'cause I just adore the rest of it.
But this version of WOTM is quite dreary and drab. Please forgo future replays.

This Scottish woman is one of the most fabulously talented & inspiring singers in the lesser known music world. She was the lead singer for Fairground Attraction and has had several solo albums since. Check out Mirmama, Angels & Electricity, & the self-titled Eddi Reader if you liked this song. Truly blissful. I follow music that moves me when it happens to come 'round NYC, but rarely venture a few miles farther than that. Eddi had me travelling to MA & PA to see her engrossing shows, and well worth it. But, I fawn.....
Last tidbit--- she sang the lead on that song by the 80's group Gang of Four that went," I love a man in a uniform..."

Okay okay !! I LOVE this song... but, how do I say this nicely? Diversify?
I've been listening to RP since around Feb and I've heard this song at least 4 times. According to the posts, it gets played every three or four weeks. Can the playlist be so limited? Or is this part of the archived playlist that is on remote while Bill is out?
No complaints since I've heard more new tuneage here in that time than ANY other music source. But Emilliana has a couple of other winners, too.
Just my two & 1/2 cents.

Martha and the Muffins - Swimming (Jun 03, 2004 - 10:11) | Thank you, Thank you & again, Thank you !!!! As obscure as I can imagine. Recognized it from the first car crash notes.
