Going to see them tomorrow here in Rochester. I can't wait. The set lists for recent shows have been amazing.

The Flaming Lips - Vein of Stars

Private Revolution. Goodbye Jumbo from '91 was great, and the song "Way Down" is very stone-esque. In a good way of course.
Devo - Beautiful World

Just bought a new car and decided I needed some new music to go with the new car, so I bought this greatest hits disc. Great stuff. College days were filled with Devo. Q: Are we not men? A: We are Devo.
Elvis Costello - Watching The Detectives

Elvis is playing acoustic here tonight, then Dylan and his band play after. Im thinking Elvis will joing Dyland for at least a couple tunes. Unfortunately, I'm not going.

Go back and listen to RHP's a few more times. It took me a few listens, but now I love (most of) their stuff. But then again, I love Salvador Sanchez.

Sun Kil Moon takes things pretty well onward from where they left off with Old Ramon. Will always be severely underrated...and very much a love/hate band, depending upon how people feel about Mark K's voice (I love it, my wife hates it), the characteristic guitar sound, and nice, long songs to curl up to.

Old Ramon is fantastic. You are exactly right about the love/hate thing. My wife hates Mark's voice, but I love it. Turned my friend onto them, and his wife hates Mark's voice as well. Oh well.

What's particularly grating about the song is person - Joe Average. "I'll give you all I have and a little more". I wish!

Many years ago, a friend pointed this out about an old Bob Segar song - "Against the Wind". The idea that a millionaire rock star is "Still runnin' against the wind" or about to sleep on my floor because he's got nowhere to go is preposterous. You can say they're adopting a persona, but I don't buy it.

How about Echo? I think that's one of TP's best albums ever. I haven't heard much of this or The Last DJ, but what I've heard off of this one is pretty good. I'm hoping to see TP and the Allman Brothers next week.

OTOH, I am equal opportunity: I also couldn't stand "Skater Boy" (a.k.a. "Sk8er Boi" or some such).
Ambivalent because the instrumentation os so good.

Seeing as how TP was probably 18 or 19 when he wrote this song, I think maybe we can forgive him for using the word girl. Since when is girl a bad word? Who says he's generalizing about a certain group? It sounds to me as those he's singing about one American GIRL in particular.

Excellent song off my favorite Heads album. Adrian Belew's guitar work is fantastic and Eno's influence is always incredible.
Stevie Ray Vaughan - Couldn't Stand The Weather
(Nov 04, 2005 - 07:54)
I saw SRV play outdoors at the University of Buffalo Fall Fest back in the mid 80's. The owner of the Buffalo Drum Outlet presented Stevie with a new guitar during the show, and Stevie tuned it up and just started whaling away on it. It was amazing. Fireworks were lighting up the sky during the final song.
Dave Brubeck Quartet - Blue Rondo a la Turk
(Nov 04, 2005 - 07:46)
I love this song and this whole album. It brings back fond memories of sitting in my living room as a child listening to this with my mom and dad. This is timeless music and it will continue to be one of my favs for ever.

Amazing. Never heard of him before. Where is this guy? Is he still playing? I hear he was with Procol Harum, and being a Jethro Tull fan(atic), I should have seen him in one of JT's tours. Sounds like Hendrix in so many ways, but with a better voice. I could buy his albums now that I know what I've been missing.

Yes he is still around, and he is great to see live. You should buy Bridge of Sighs, it's a great album. Here's a link to his site:

Brian Eno & John Cale - One Word

I love this song and this disc. Kurt Wallinger is fantastic. He can rock or slow it down, either way, his stuff is great.
Neil Young - When God Made Me
(Oct 04, 2005 - 08:02)
Wow !! I'm surprised at all of the negative comments about this song. I saw Neil perform it on the telethon for Hurricane Katrina, and I thought it was a great song. I've loved Neil's music since I was a kid, and I still love it.

My ex-girlfriend in Baton Rouge used to know these guys and hang with them a bit when they were in town. Once we were part of about 30 people who saw them play at a friend's plantation home. You have to picture them playing on the porch of what must have been the shack where the "help" lived.

Anyway, there they were playing some down-home, just gorgeous music with us all sitting in the grass on blankets and chais.

On the right was a massive row of tables with crawfish and a keg or two of beer.

The 'dudes played into the evening and everyone pretty much crashed right there under the stars or on the floor of the plantation guy's house.

A rare and memorable moment for me.

Wow!! That sounds incredible. I saw them at a free outdoor concert with Robert Cray and Shawn Colvin. Robert was good, Shawn was boring (surprise, surprise) and the Subdudes were fantastic. I had heard they broke up but have since gotten back together. They are very good live.

I agree 100%. Great song with great emotions.
Ashley MacIsaac - Sleepy Maggie

Any HIP is good HIP in my mind.
Stan Ridgway - Drive, She Said

Stan is one of the best story tellers ever. I saw him back in the late 90's and he put on a great show with a really tight band. He hung out and shot pool with us after the show. Seemed to be a very nice, down to earth guy.
Kate Bush - The Big Sky

Thanks for playing this song. I suggested this one a while back, and it's great to hear it. People of course find it necessary to interprate the lyrics, and not just listen to the song. I love this one and never really paid much attention to the lyrics.
David Sylvian and Robert Fripp - God's Monkey

I'm just now getting to the point to where I can listen to them effectively again (after 7+ years), after my college roommate destroyed them for me by playing 10 different remixes of "Lemon" all freaking day. That aside, this song is absolutely beautiful and I pity the person who is not moved by the soul of this tune. Some fantastic lyrics, and this is just one of those songs that will never become old. Gotta give credit where it's due. I love RP!

You poor guy. LEMON? Of all songs to choose. I never liked that song to begin with and if my room mate played it repeatadely I would be bummed. I agree about One though, a great song off of an excellent disc.

The Edge (w/ Sinéad O'Connor) - Heroine

Jimmy Cliff - The Harder They Come

My brother gave me this album for my 10th birthday. It instantly became my favorite album. Not because of the music, but because of the picture of the topless woman on the inside sleeve of the album. Give me a break! I was 10. Oh, the music was excellent as well, it just took a little longer for that to sink in.

The Beatles - Tomorrow Never Knows
